Hi-hat pedal note doubling - Mimic issue?

Post by Ddrummer68 »

I'm using ATV Hi-hats with a eDRUMin 10. When closing the hats, two pedal notes are being sounded at the Mimic.

The pedal note sounds:
-when the CC value goes down to approximately 63 (The UI "Pedal" does not light up)
-when I reach the top of the green Travel bar (The UI "Pedal" does light up)

This happens when the Pedal mode is Hi-hat CC Mode
When I change the mode to Control Change, the Pedal note only sounds when passing downward through 63-ish.

When I look at the eDRUMin MIDI Output, I can't see any note being triggered where it shouldn't be.

This makes me think I've somehow screwed up the Mimic so it always triggers a Pedal note when it receives CC4v63. But I can't see how I would have done that, nor how I might fix it.

I've done numerous resets to default, and updated firmware a few times since first noticing this. I've also tried a different set of ATV Hi-hats and a different eDRUMin 10 unit. The issue can be made to disappear for a little while, but comes back, and not with a pattern I can discern.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, or knowing if anyone else has seen this issue. Thanks!

It's probably a setting on the mimic. As a work around, you could use 'Hihat Levels' mode in eDRUMin and change the hihat CC to something unused like CC 20. I tried to find some info in the Mimic manual, but couldn't. You might consider contacting their technical support.

Can you possibly share more details of how to follow your suggestion? I've tried, but must be doing something wrong.

When I change to Levels mode, using the Mimic Pro map, CC is locked to 4 and grayed out. In that configuration, I still get the double Pedal notes as described below.

If I create a new preset, where all the notes are 68/67 except extra tight are 66/65, AND CC is set to 20, then I don't get the doubled Pedal note, but I also don't have control of open/closed, except for extra tight. In other words, when the pedal is extra tight, it sounds as it should. But every other Level above Extra tight is "full open".

If Levels is truly a workaround, I want to be sure I'm setting it up correctly. Thanks for the help!

UPDATE: I may have a slightly different workaround. I plugged the ATV HH CTRL back into the Mimic and recalibrated the open/close settings so the pedal note happens where I want it to. Then, I put it back into the eDRUMin and set the Pedal note to 0. I've only tested for a few minutes, but this may work out ok, until and unless I can figure out a better way. I'm getting the HH pedal note based on CC information, so it's only happening once.
