Sorry, I just noticed this thread.

Here is a circuit to use when using a FSR based HH controller, as Roland does.

Myself, I just bought a FSR pad for $15 and placed it under my HH pedal with a wood platform and some foam.

You can view the circuit here on VDrums:

Hope it helps.
Did you make your DIY Controller work with a Yamaha Module? Can you confirm that although a Yamaha Module expects incremental steps from a HH Controller, they can receive continuous Hi Hat controller information and send it out as MIDI CC?
Also what FSR pad did you buy?

Thank you,
Daniel

Just read a little on that thread I linked, it has all the info about the FSR (the square one) and how it works.

I got it to work with a DTX700 module. Remember that Yamaha only does closed/ 1/4 open, 1/2 open, full open. So, you won't get continuous opening unless you use a VST.

Also, as Rob mentioned, you will get a lot more control by using an eDRUMin device. The level of customization far exceed what a regular module offers. So, if you have the ED4 already, your best choice is to plug the FSR (or whatever you are using) into the ED4 directly, and send that to your Yamaha DTX Multi 12 MIDI in.

Anyone familiar with the Alesis (surge) HH controller? Seems there's an FSR pad on there but with separate sections. I'm guessing it's stepped and not continuous?
