Using Yamaha PCY/RHH Cymbals with eDrumin 10

Hi, looking for some advice on using Jobeky side mounted triggers and Yamaha PCY155 and RHH135 with eDrumin 10. Are the pads compatible and easy enough to set up? I've been considering the new DTX PRO module to upgrade my current DTX700 module but from what I've seen I prefer the sound of using SD3, an interface and an eDRUMin 10. I feel my current set up is lacking and want a more realistic better sounding set up.

I have access to SD3 and a DAW, a Laptop and plan to get a Focusrite 4i4 or 2i2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can make a decision on what to purchase, cheers!

The weakest link in your setup is the RHH135. The hihat only offers 4 levels of openness and is miles behind pretty much any hihat controller with truly variable positioning. It'll work with the eDRUMin, but you won't be able to access all 8 levels of hihat openness that SD3 has to offer. The Yamaha PCY155 is well supported and you'll get all 3 zones. Some users have had trouble with center mounted Jobeky triggers being too hot, but I think you should be fine with the side mounted triggers.

It's also worth noting that you can connect the DTX700 to the USB host port of the eDRUMin and so you could trigger all the sounds on the DTX or SD3.

Well... I also come from a DTX700. I have mostly all Yamaha cymbals, and DIY pads.
I started with a ED4 to get some pads to play well with the DTX700, but I have since moved on to full VST sounds.

I am using the eDRUMin10 now for everything. The DTX700 is gathering dust and I am looking to sell it.

The Yamaha cymbals were really easy to set up, and with the new version, you even get PS on the ride. Pretty cool!

Side mounted triggers work really well for toms, and with the rim sense feature, you get two toms with 2 zones each from one input. Now that's magic!

You'll need a center mounted system for the snare if you want PS there as well. If the Jobeky system is too hot, you can always add a potentiometer in the chain. I used to do that with my DIY pads using the Yamaha module.

I use a PCY135 for my HH, and a FSR pedal system, and I get 3 zones on the HH... something that not many modules have!

Rob, thanks for the reply! I'm beginning to realise Yamaha only like there stuff to work with their own gear... what would be a better hi-hat to use that is like for like with the RHH135? as I'd rather upgrade that to one where it will be more compatible with the eDRUMIN10 and SD3 to get the best from it.

I don't plan to keep my module and will sell to help help fund my new set up to save it gathering dust, along with the RHH135 and if it all goes horribly wrong then go back to a different brand of module.

Sound like you have a good handle on this so I may need to lean on you to help out if that's ok? I have a spare couple of PCY135'S so I could do what you have done, what is an FSR pedal system? and i've also been looking at a centre mounted trigger but unsure due to hot spotting, is a potentiometer easy to install? cheers!

Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR) is a little thing that varies the resistance according to the pressure applied. Mainly used with robots, but cheap and easy to get. The square one, which is good for us, is about $10.
Make a little plate (5mm wood / plastic cutting board / etc) under your pedal, stick the FSR there, and place a piece of foam between the FSR and the bottom of the pedal. I experienced with different foam densities until I found the right one for me.

Potentiometer are variable resistors. Think of the volume knob on an amplifier.
Usually requires a little soldering, but I have seen some with leads already in place. Google to see the wiring diagram. Not hard.

eDRUMin device has a hot spot suppressor that works quite well.

Perceval, cheers man i will look into that! also looking at a Go eDrum HH controller and using a PCY135 as a temp measure. I think ultimately a VH-11 may be on the cards and sell my 2X PCY 135's and RHH135,

Should not be a problem. Center triggers, side mounted triggers, they are just some foam and a piezo. Whatever brand they are.
