No choke on 2nd cymbal BFD3

Post by ddropski »

Hello everyone

I can't seem to get cymbal choke on crash 2 to work I see it light when I grab the cymbal and I set it to the note I assigned for it in the keymap but it just does not stop the cymbal. I tried other cymbals also I get the same result. I also tried telling Edummin to send a note instead of aftertouch and nothing happened Has anyone experienced that ? can BFD choke more than 1 cymbal? it's as if BFD3 is not seeing the choke command.

Not sure what the problem is. If you are running BFD3 standalone of in any host other than Ableton, then I would just use aftertouch.

nope i tried that no dice :(

answer me this in bfd3 if I assign my "hit" or " edge" articulation to a note .. do I still need to do anything with the choke articulation? I'm not sure what that would be assigned to .. if I assign it to the choke note on the was set on edrummin for that cymbal let's say 12 and in bfd assign choke to note 12 it works but kinda crappily ( if that's a word LOL) if I keep hitting the edge it will keep triggering the sample of the cymbal hit from scratch (causing it to machinegun-ish)

Hey Rob,

is there a way I can tell if the ed10 is sending aftertouch messages to the bfd? this one really has me stumped.

it's either that the ed10 is not sending them or I have something configured wrong .. if I do I dont see it

I've got to look into it again but I wasn't able to get aftertouch triggering on mine either, as I just got everything else tuned in.

I can set it to the proper key in Addictive Drums 2 and have it enabled but no luck triggering it.

It's on the agenda for tomorrow so I'll see if it's just something I'm overlooking. Or maybe it's something with the alesis cymbals.

Just wanted to say that I just ordered an ED4 to supplement my ED10 so I could use the 2-input 3-zone Lemon ride and an extra cymbal.

After plugging in the ED4 and hooking everything up - most of the kit pieces were already set up from before - with the ride using inputs 1 and 2 and the extra cymbal on 3, I found the cymbals were choking on their own although the ride wasn't; it was just making a ride tip sound (bow).

I just toggled the "choke" option in advanced settings for the ride and now choke works. I was pretty sure I tried that to no avail earlier.

Now if only I could get the bell to trigger on this ride I'd be pretty happy.

Follow up: the ride was defective on the bell trigger so they are sending a replacement.
