Advanced mode

Post by scrumpy1 »

Hi - I see you can specify different velocity curves per articulation, but is it possible to specify different threshold, scan, hold, and decay as well? I'm finding the rim shot sensor on my drum is way more sensitive than the head and it would be great to be able to specify these separately without having to resort to dual mono - mode.

Thanks!

What you are looking for is the rimshot scaler. Scalers will adjust the gain (maybe a better way to say it, but to me that is what I think of) for the rimshot articulation. Same idea for bell articulation, and side stick side stick articulation. Those all have scalers, and the HH pedal has a scaler too. Adjust the scaler such that your just than less max velocity rimshot is at 127. Then adjust the velocity curve for rimshot articulation as needed for dynamics for everything else less than max velocity.

Thanks for the reply, but not exactly what I'm looking for - I really want to be able to change the threshold, scan, hold, and decay times separately like you can the velocity curves in advanced mode. The workaround is to change to a dual mono input and then you can control everything, but I like having the software "aware" that this is actually the same drum and using it's linked articulations.

Separate threshold controls makes no sense. When scanning begins, there's no way to know what articulation is coming--that only becomes apparent as the transient is scanned. The same can be said for the scan time control. Separate decay controls sounds like the most reasonable request, but in my experience it's not necessary.

What problems are you experiencing exactly?

I assumed it could be done as if it were in dual mono mode - the problem I'm trying to resolve is that when I adjust the scan hold and decay to eliminate double hits, I am able to get them dialed in for the hit, but the side stick still doubles and I have to adjust the decay further than I would like for the center articulation as it can tolerate a faster decay time for faster hits.

I see your problem. What kind of pad are you using?

This is a drumtec Jam snare (mesh head 2-zone "Side Trigger System")

Can you post a screenshot of your settings? Hit the rim of the pad before you take the screenshot so I can see what the transients look like.

I have it working satisfactorily - you're right that it is likely unnecessary to have the additional controls, it just seemed logical at the time when I was tweaking it to have that ability. Amazing product - I'm new to this space, but it seems there is nothing else like it which I found very surprising. I doubt I could have put together a usable setup without it.
