Understanding VU scrolling meter

Post by Alx_d »

I am trying to understand why I always see the VU meter scrolling on input channels (Auto set to off) I am not triggering.
So as an example the Auto function is off.
I then monitor the snare or any of the other 9 inputs (besides the cymbal in this case).
I then strike the cymbal and I see the VU scrolling in from the snare VU.

From this I conclude the VU meter can only show the current pad that is being hit no matter which channel I am looking at. I want to monitor cross talk since I am having random trigger issues with unit drums and would like to use the VU such that I can see these.

Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

That red that you are seeing in the scrollview is the amount of crosstalk being applied to the currently selected input. You'll see it scale up and down when you adjust the crosstalk control.

I understand what your are saying and tested it.
Now I just removed one of the trigger input cables and see VU activity when striking an other input pad trigger.
Should I still be seeing activity on the VU for that unused input when striking a different trigger input? This is what I am now trying to understand better.

Like I said, if you are talking about the red in the scrolling VU, that red represents the amount of crosstalk cancellation that is being applied to the currently selected input as a result of another pad being hit.
