I was wondering from others on the forum if high velocity edge articulation hits on the snare are difficult on their pads? I have a PD-125BK and it seems like no matter how hard I hit the edge (near the Roland logo on the mesh head) the velocity peaks at 80-90ish and that is it. Ghost notes are easy on the edge but accent notes are difficult.
I also have a PDX-100 as a Tom pad (no Tom PS on my VST) and the edge playability is a bit better but still getting a 127 velocity note from the edge is not possible.
Is that a potential feature request for an independent velocity curve for the edge articulation?
None of my VSTs have an off center articulation, but I seem to notice playing off center, but not the edge, is a bit muted as well. It’s like the HIT velocity curve is good for the center, but the further away I hit from center I wish I could have a bump in velocity.
I do have hotspot suppress on, but does not indicate it is active off center or on edge.

I have a 14" acoustic snare with a UFO eBridge center piezo and L-bracket mounted 35mm shell piezo. The PS is working well for the edge articulation in SD3. I never bothered to check what range of velocity I can get - will test and report back
Re: PS Snare Edge Articulation velocity
I have a white* PD-125 as a snare and I'm having no problems attaining the full velocity range when playing any of the PS zones.
(*Is there a difference between the different color models? I know there is an "X" version but I thought the black and white ones were functionally the same.)

Interesting, I doubt triggering will change between models like that. Should just be a color, rack mounting differences. I bought my pad used and the eBay description said the owner replaced the cone and mess head with new Roland parts.monospace wrote:I have a white* PD-125 as a snare and I'm having no problems attaining the full velocity range when playing any of the PS zones.

Also, maybe my HIT velocity curve is significantly different from yours. When I get a chance later today I’ll post a screenshot of my settings.

Re: PS Snare Edge Articulation velocity
Thanks monospace. Our settings are very different. I suspect it has to do with mine being used and the previous owner changing out the "cone".monospace wrote:Here are my settings.
I've attached two screenshots. One is a max velocity center hit and the other is max velocity edge hit. I did take eDRUMin out of the loop and connected the PD-125BK to my TD-17 module. The standard Roland trigger settings for PD125 in the TD17 resulted in max velocity edge hit at 110 (but TD-17 does not support PS, so an edge hit on a TD-17 is pretty useless).
I did change my velocity curve for "HIT" to match more or less yours. The max velocity on the edge improved (110ish), but I thought the dynamics on the center became less desirable.

Yeah wow, that’s very different. For what it’s worth, I’ve replaced cones on my triggers many times and it never requires drastically changing any settings. Looking at your settings, the first thing I would change is the Hotspot Suppression. Make sure your mesh head is as tight as possible, and then reduce the Thresh by quite a bit. A tight head makes all the difference.

Re: PS Snare Edge Articulation velocity
I tightened the head and then I immediately observed my settings were way off (as expected). So I matched my settings up to yours with some minor tweaks. Edge now plays just fine. Hotspot suppress is good but I think I need to still tweak some. To much suppress on my left hand backbeat. Original issue fixed. So now just some fine tuning.monospace wrote:Yeah wow, that’s very different. Update: for hotspot all I need to do was increase the thresh to fit my style of play and the amount. Snare has never played better. Thanks!
