Changes in build 18
  • Fixed an auto-select issue with devices plugged into host port.
  • Fixed an issue that could result in a MIDI feedback loop with devices connected to USB host port.
  • More visual feedback when switching banks and selecting curves.
  • Fixed a possible crash for macOS when closing the app.
  • Fixed an issue that would prevent the 'Choke Note' switch from working in advanced mode.
  • Fixed an issue where some fonts weren't properly scaling.
In this build I've added some pedal sensing debugging data. Two numbers will be shown in the tooltip for the pedal editor icon(s). If you are having any issues with your hihat controller, let me know what those two numbers are.

Actually, I didn't say my hi hat pedal is connected to a different eDRUMin 10. For clarity, I only have one eDRUMin 10. However, my hi hat is the only instrument and controller that is directly connected to my one eDRUMin. In the situation I described, all the other instruments are connected to the ATV aD5 and I am connecting that to the eDRUMin, so that MIDI information will pass through the eDRUMin into the computer. In fact in this use case, I am using the eDRUMin as the hi hat because the aD5's hi hat doesn't play well with VSTs. Having said all this, I have tinkered wtih connections and restarts and can't replicate it. Everything seems to be working as it should now.
Sorry I didn’t mean to confuse the point. I should have taken the time to quote the actual poster I was referring to. Mylo was the poster with a VH11 connected through a device hosted on another eDRUMin. Purpose of my comment was on that my own VH10 has not exhibited any issues in 1.4.17. I’m about ready to try 1.4.18.

MisterE good to hear your HH is up and running now with the eDRUMin and USB HOSTing the AD5. I personally found that the VH10 triggered fine in VST through my TD-17, but now with eDRUMin I feel like I have better calibration control. I calibrated the HH such that my normal foot pressure is a “closed” HH sound in EZD2, but when I press with my toes I get the “tight” HH sound. Not something I got with the TD-17. Thank you eDRUMin.

I think this change impacted my set up. A couple days ago I switched my setup. When I first set up my slave TD-17 set up I “cut the cable snake” and moved all of my trigger inputs to eDRUMin. However I had too many pads and not enough inputs so I split my Tom pads and was using mono inputs. My change was I moved Crash 2 (CY-12C) and AUX (CY-5 splash) back to TD-17, since those are not part of cable snake. Purpose was four out of five tom pads are now stereo inputs and I got better triggering results. To make this work I set local control off on the TD-17 so when I hit Crash 2 or AUX the Td-17 produced no sound from the pad. However the MIDI notes went to the eDRUMin, the eDRUMin did it’s cross talk cancellation (which worked great) and then sent all the MIDI notes (to include crash 2 and AUX) back to slave TD-17. This worked greater. No cross talk and I had everything I needed.

Today after I updated to 1.4.18 the MIDI notes from the Crash 2 and AUX are no longer triggering sounds via MIDI in to the TD-17. So no crash or splash sounds on TD-17. However when I set local control back on then the sounds are triggered, because the pads have local control again of Crash 2 and AUX. However, there is no longer cross talk cancellation, because the TD-17 doesn’t have the brains of the eDRUMin to cross talk cancel incoming midi notes. In other words the only signals the TD-17 can cross talk cancel are Crash 2 and AUX since they are the only ones connected to the drum module.

Hopefully that explains the problem. TD-17 generated MIDI notes are no longer broadcasting back to the TD-17 from the eDRUMin USB HOST port.

BTW- for crash 2 and Aux I never had any strange “phasing” which I think is what you were trying fix. I also could not hear any latency, but I’m don’t claim to be an expert of measuring milliseconds of latency with a naked ear. I hit the pads and I heard a sound, and it was not out of time with the music I was playing along too.

My intention was to NOT have those notes sent back to the TD-17, so it's working as intended I guess. I'm not sure what to do about this. Perhaps in version 1.5 I can add a configuration section which includes some checkboxes for fine control of the routing.

Anyone know if other modules have the equivalent of the 'local control' setting?

I understand. When I wrote up my post I kinda figured you made it work the way it is supposed to work. I have a workaround right now. I have left local control on (so crash 2 and aux will trigger sounds) but I created a user kit with no sounds at all. So I use that when I’m using a VST. My other Td-17 kits works just fine with local control once I adjust the threshold for crash 2 and aux to remove the cross talk.

Yes, in the future if there was a configuration setting to send the MIDI back to the source that would be appreciated.

So I finally had time today to relax, chill out, and have a nice session--it's been weeks. I spent about 15 minutes tweaking and then played for about an hour. I'm really liking how independent curves give you complete control over the dynamics of a pad. I've never played a more realistic sounding kit.

And the 'impact' method for the hihat is amazing. There are some UI bugs in the display, but the timing and dynamics of closed pedal notes is just so much better.

I'm really happy with how version 1.4 is shaping up. Thank-you all for helping me test and root out bugs.

In other news, I have finally broken down and bought a new interface. I use an M-Audio 1814 that hasn't been supported on macOS for half a decade, so I ordered an RME BabyFace FS (should have it in a week or two). That should make it a lot easy to test on macOS.

Changes in build 19
  • Fixed current pedal calibration not updated when clicking the 'calibrate' button.
  • Fixed UI feedback for hihats set to use 'impact' method.
There are still reports of some occasional crashes that I need to investigate. Curious, do you feel at this point that 1.4 is more stable than 1.3?

I dunno, I thought 1.3 was pretty stable too. But I own a fairly conventional set of triggers (all Roland) and haven’t had to concern myself with getting things to work for months now. I did some additional fine-tuning with the individual curves, but mostly I’m just playing.

I’m not experiencing any crashes. And really I don’t remember it ever crashing on me.

However, I still have the CC issue after an upgrade. I did a very controlled upgrade this time. With version 18 everything is working. On my pedal inputs I have auto sensing off and the device the controllers are connected to is hosted by another ED10. After the upgrade to 19 no CC is being sent. To fix, I have to go to each pedal and toggle Sense to on and then back off. Once I do this the CC messages are sent properly.

On another completely different note... occasionally when I start the app it doesn’t recognize my devices. The app only displays one ED4 icon. I restart the app and that brings my real devices back. I assume there is some error or timeout when the app tries to read my devices and when it doesn’t get a proper response it defaults to one ED4.

Even with these things I’m greatly pleased with 1.4 and the new features. I haven’t really done much tweaking but it still seems my snare is getting more dynamic. Even the lightest touches are registering allowing me to be real consistent. The hi-hat just keeps getting better.

Today I updated to latest firmware, and after sometime playing I came across the China cymbal playing an open (bow) and closed HH sound (edge). I only use bank 1 and 2. I had already switched note banks a couple times during this session using pedal. Anyways I hit the pedal to switch note banks and it switched to the midi note for bank 2 (I wasn’t looking at the app I could tell by the different sound). I hit the pedal again and I was back to bank 1. I kept playing and when I stopped I checked the note banks for the China cymbal. Bank 3 or bank 4 would have HH midi notes because I never changed them from whatever the preset had.
