@mylo - During the Beta upgrade increments I've had a few times where I initiallly got no CC from the hi-hat pedal (hall effect) but then I would manually change the pedal type to another such as piano sustain and then set it back to the expression pedal and then it would start working. I think I might have had Sense on also. I think what happens is the firmware update has new code that doesn't kick in until you let the software "sense" your pedal.

Thanks... I’ll give that a shot. I did unplug my controller and plugged it back in hoping it would work. I would think that would kick in the sensing. I’ll go give it a try.

I'm guessing that the VH-11 needs power. Can you confirm that setting the pedal type to an expression pedal brings it back to life?

I had pedal auto sense turned off. Just toggling it seems to have woke it all up.

With sense on, it's detected as a hihat pedal or expression pedal?

I don’t think auto sense for the pedal has ever worked for me which is why I had it turned off. Not sure why I have never reported this.

When I toggle auto sense on it doesn’t change from my selected setting of hi-hat pedal. If, with auto sensing off, I switch it manually to something other than hi-hat pedal and turn auto sensing on nothing happens. It doesn’t switch or detect the VH-11. I then switch it manually to hi-hat and things start working again (but auto sense goes back to off once I pick it manually).

Also several things went crazy playing with this. At one point my pedal actually changed to bank 2 when I was pressing all the buttons.

Another thing I tried. I unplugged the controller, set the pedal to expression (I think), turned on auto sense, plugged the controller in. It did not auto sense.

This is the first time something like this has ever happened. Upgrade have been pretty flawless for me.

Also... these are not official Roland VH-11 controllers. They came with my Jobeky hi-hats. But I am now using them with an ATV cymbal sitting on top of the controller.

If I understand the diagrams in the manual correctly, wouldn't any other MIDI note originating from the aD5 make its way to the eDRUMin, then out and back to the aD5? Whereas, it seems the only "MIDI phasing" (for lack of a better term) I'm hearing is from the hi hat - the only instrument (trigger device) that is not input directly into the aD5.
I think I know what's casing this. Fixed in the next build.

I’ve been using 4.1.17 for at least a couple days now with a VH10. I changed no HH settings between firmware updates. However my pedal is connected directly to the eDRUMin 10. Original poster mentioned the pedal was connected to a different eDRUMin 10 connected via a USB HOST port.

@Dadwrshpdrum

When I updated to 1.4.0.17 my E10 was acting very strange - the pedal was bouncing up and down by itself and all my tricks with Sense, Polarity, switching pedal types, power cycle didn't help. Since I wanted to work on something I downgraded and it still was doing the bouncing thing. At this point I plugged the hi-hat pedal and cymbal into my E4 and plugged that into the host port. I didn't know until then how seamless the host port works. My VST host, Cantabile, just saw the E10 but all the inputs on the E4 worked through it which is nice so you don't have to set up multiple devices in the DAW or VST host.

I'm still gun shy from that upgrade so I'm waiting for the next one :D

Actually, I didn't say my hi hat pedal is connected to a different eDRUMin 10. For clarity, I only have one eDRUMin 10. However, my hi hat is the only instrument and controller that is directly connected to my one eDRUMin. In the situation I described, all the other instruments are connected to the ATV aD5 and I am connecting that to the eDRUMin, so that MIDI information will pass through the eDRUMin into the computer. In fact in this use case, I am using the eDRUMin as the hi hat because the aD5's hi hat doesn't play well with VSTs. Having said all this, I have tinkered wtih connections and restarts and can't replicate it. Everything seems to be working as it should now.
