Positional sensing with side trigger?
Positional sensing with side trigger?
I'm thinking about replacing my Roland TD-17 module with an eDRUMin 10. My snare pad is a Roland PDX-12 with a trigger at the side, not in the center of the pad. Will I get positional sensing with that setup? Or is PS only working with pads that are intended to?

For PS you’ll need a single center mounted piezo snare pad. A PDX-100 (10 inches) or PD-125BK (12 inches) are good Roland options. There are other pads out there as well. You’ll also need the correct VST/drum software.legobeats wrote:I'm thinking about replacing my Roland TD-17 module with an eDRUMin 10. I similarly have gone done this route. I have a PD-125BK and I have SSD5 and ezdrummer2. SSD5 does not have PS, and the core kits for ezdrummer2 do not have PS plus many of the EZXs. Progressive EZX does since is kid brother to a SDX. I’m looking at getting kicks and snares EZX (which has PS) so I can swap in snares to other EZDrummer2 kits I like. I just have no use case for SD3. This is just a hobby for me.
TD-17KVX, PD-125BK snare, PDX-100 Tom, PDX-12 Toms, PDX-8 Toms, CY-5 splash, CY-15R ride, CY-13R China. eDRUMin 10 with TD-17 slave module. MacBook Pro (16gb RAM and 1TB SSD). SSD5.5 and EZD2. Abelton Live.
Re: Positional sensing with side trigger?
Positional Sensing as implemented in eDRUMin analyzes the incoming voltage waveform to determine how far away a hit is from the center cone. You’ll note that if you select a “Mesh Side Piezo” as your trigger input, Positional Sensing is no longer an available option.
Miscellaneous Roland triggers. ED-10 + ED-4. MacBook Pro (2015), 16G RAM, Big Sur. Superior Drummer 3. Logic Pro.

Thanks! At the moment I'm using EZdrummer but have an eye on Superior Drummer. Actually the PDX-12 does a pretty good job as it doesn't have hotspotting. So maybe I'll take one step after the other and switch to eDRUMin 10 first, waiting for some more budget for a new snare pad.
