The Billy Blast three ply I think are quite different. The outer layers are mesh but the middle layer is a poplin (trueran) that is just there to prevent the two mesh layers from touching each other which quiets them.

The way I understand it, the eDRUMIn works by analyzing the voltage waveform of a piezo. So it makes sense that a stiffer head would interfere with that ability by changing the characteristics of that waveform. It probably doesn’t actually matter whether the head is single, dual, or triple ply; just how much it interferes with the vibrations. I know that single ply heads are prone to double triggering because they’re so bouncy. From my observations, I’d argue that the Drum-Tec Real Feels are too rigid. From your description it would seem that the Billy Blasts perform better because they’re constructed differently.
