The mount assembly needs to be a lot more solid and not held by turns of electrical tape.
Check other builds, and don't cut corners.

Is that head mesh? It looks so opaque.

Yes it's the picture with the mat in foam. A couple of layer. There's a metal o ring in between. I'll try a hard surface.Sly wrote:What do you use as leveler ? Is it foam ?
Maybe try with some hard material.

A lot of reviews find them almost identical to the Drumtec real feel.
Here's one of the review:

Re: Hotspot not detected
Ok I'm getting to something.
Removing the decoupler and putting the piezo directly on a hard surface (with a foam double side tape) made the HSS starting to work.
But my gain is set to 1 and when I hit directly the cone, the HSS doesn't remove enough even with the amount set to 100.
I wonder if a pot would help or not.

Re: Hotspot not detected
Ok maybe someone has other ideas.
I'm using this trigger: https://www.quartzpercussions.com/produ ... -connector
There's only the crossbar with the trigger stick on it with the double side tape already on it when I bought it.
The HSS algorithm is now working, but if I hit directly on the cone the amount is not enough to compensate. I'm not sure what it means but the line in the amount seems to go higher when the cone is not hit directly. It's like the HSS remove less amount when hits are direct on the cone then just next to it.
I tried to add a pot, but at the minute I reduce it, the HSS stop working. I assume using a 27mm piezo is like using a pot but I'm not sure since I don't have a lot of knowledge in electronics. Also the response is not as good if using a pot compared to not using it. So the 35mm response is really good except exactly on the cone.
But a lot of people here are using 35 mm piezo so it should work. Also I'm pretty sur the cone are identical to the UFO one, so there must be something to tweak.
Any suggestions?

Re: Hotspot not detected
Looking through your pics, I can spot some potential issues with your build which might be interfering with HSS (I appreciate you may have already addressed some of these):
Your cone construction definitely doesn't look secure to me. You're hitting this thing with a stick! So it has to be rock solid. Electrical tape isn't going to cut it.
What's the piezo sat upon? It needs to be solid, with a little firm foam (~10mm) and flat, and stuck down (I use some 1mm foam double-sided tape). From the pic, that surface doesn't look flat, or foam
The head looks unusual from the pics too. My Real Feel head definitely seems more 'meshy'.
Keep those wires well away from the head! Them bouncing off the head will really mess with the triggering response.
No idea what the last pic is showing...sorry.

Re: Hotspot not detected
Thanks a lot for your help all,
I took a little break for tweaking because I needed to play instead of adjusting wires and piezo.
I did your recommendation. Removed all the tape and the foam that I was using for decoupler.
Now the trigger is directly stick to the bar with the double side tape that was already on the Quart Trigger.
I'm now able to make the HSS work.
But it's not removing enough if I hit directly on the cone. Elsewhere it's ok.
Note that using a potentiometer doesn't help, it's worse because the HSS stop to work almost immediately when I reduce the signal.
The only way I was able to make it works was to tweak the velocity curve so that hit directly on the cone doesn't go all the way up. But I'm not 100% satisfied with this solution.
I don't think that's the way to do it, because sometime it doesn't work, but I least it doesn't go at 127 I hit the center (almost every hits) and it's playable. I think if I could get the amount of HSS reduction higher it would be better.
If any have other ideas, they would be greatly welcomed, otherwise I might return to side mounted trigger.
I added a picture of the curve that I use, with any other curve that I've tried, the hot spot restarted to appear.
The idea behind this curve, was to remove the most velocity possible until I hit very hard to not trigger the hotspot.

If you send me more data, I'll have another look.

What velocity curve I should set before sending it?Rob wrote:If you send me more data, I'll have another look.
Do I need to disable the HSS?
Or I keep everything like this?
