Wiring for 3 zone cymbal, with piezo bell

Post by MWJT42 »

This might have already be discussed in another thread, apologies, but I'm struggling to find details.

In a piezo-bell, piezo-bow, switch-edge setup, what is eDRUMin expecting?

Is it 2 inputs (one bow / edge stereo, and one bell mono) or is there a way of wiring it like the 3 zone Yamaha cymbal on one cable?

Thanks Rob.

I presume Bell could also be on the tip, for a dual mono splitter?

And its up to the VSTi to distinguish between bell and bow/edge hits?

(Or can the 2 be triggered simultaneously in SD3?)

No, the bell piezo needs to be on the ring. At this point in time, the tip is completely ignored. Maybe a few versions down the road this will be an option, but it's not a priority.

Sorry Rob, I'm thoroughly confused...

How do well tell eDRUMin this ring input is a ride bell?

Is it set as a completely separate dual zone cymbal, with a midi note that outputs as ride bell?

Or

Is it somehow linked to the dual zone ride bow and edge?

Also,

Can this ring input be used dual mono, with a splitter, so we can make use of the tip with another pad? (single zone splash for example)

Thanks.

There is a 3 Zone Metal cymbal pad type. Use that. It will automatically put the second input into bell mode.

I have my bell on the tip. I just set my ride to a dual zone switch/piezo and set the bell input to regular cymbal. I turned up the threshold on the bell and it seemed to work pretty well. Haven’t tested it a bunch yet.

Amazing!

Can I use a splitter on the 2nd input, to make use of another pad in Dual Mono mode?

No. As I said previously, at this point the tip of the bell input is completely ignored. Allowing a bell input to be used in Dual Mono will surely be a bug ridden process and it's not something I want to tackle right now.

I’m about to wire up my bell piezo for my 3 zone metal cymbal. Do I need Neg on sleeve and pos on ring? Or does it matter? Thanks!
