eDRUMin version 1.3.1 BETA

Post by Rob »

eDRUMin version 1.3.1 BETA is ready for testing. Please keep all discussion about this BETA in this thread. I will maintain updated links to the latest BETA version below. You can downgrade from this version without loosing your settings. Hotspot supression has been heavily reworked, and as such you will need to adjust your hotspot suppression controls to get good results. As always, your feedback is much appreciated.

Regards,
Rob

Changes in build 15
  • Improved the pedal calibration process.
  • Fixed a notarization issue with macOS installer.
Changes in build 13
  • Fixed a small issue that would make a 3-Way Roland Ride look like a 3-Way Metal Ride.
Changes in build 12
  • A preset that was saved from a Dual Mono input and applied to a Stereo will turn make the stereo input to mono.
  • A small change to HSS to prevent unreasonable amounts of suppression from being applied.
  • Reduce the sensitivity of the piezo / switch compatibility check for ED10.
Changes in build 10
  • Fixed disappearing labels from previous build.
  • Presets will now change the input mode, unless the mode is set to Dual Mono.
  • Factory presets will now also send velocity curves.
  • Updated Factory Presets
  • Updated the manual.
Changes in build 9
  • Scan time and hold time are now set during the calibration routine.
  • Turning calibration on and off without hitting the pad will not change settings (except threshold).
  • Hitting edge of the cymbal will no longer pull down the gain.
  • Calibration related UI bug fixes.
Changes in build 8
  • Pedal Sensing Reliability Improvements
  • Fixed a bug that was cause hihat splashes to always register with a velocity of 127.
Changes in build 6
  • Pedal Sensing will continue to function when a pedal / hihat controller is disconnected and reconnected but the cable remains plugged into the pedal input.
  • Inadvertent bank changes are prevented when a footswitch or sustain pedal is disconnected.
  • Fixed small issues with momentary footswitches.
Changes in build 5
  • More positional sensing tweaks
Changes in build 4
  • More positional sensing tweaks

you nailed it man, the metal 3-zone cymbal works perfectly with my 18" Low volume Diamond Drums Ride!

Awesome. The world's first and only module with support for metal cymbals. By treating the bell piezo properly, i was able to add some special processing to improve the accuracy and consistency.

ooooohhhh.... that so much wants me to buy a set of metal cymbals now.....
Are they just a piezo on the bow, and a piezo in the bell plus a switch on the edge?

Great job, Rob.

 hype!

EDIT: Rob, please can we have an option for a metal cymbal that uses 3zone Yamaha wiring?

But WOW I didn't know what I was missing out on, metal cymbals feel great now, thank you so much

EDIT2: Things definitely feel a lot better, especially on pos sens, I actually can get harder hits towards the edge now. However my snare still has a hotspot issue, and I should note that this is the only trigger that does. It's a Jobeky A2E 14" snare. I am considering maybe that the trigger needs changing, I'll try tightening the mesh some more.

If it is the hardware then that is interesting as my DIY pads are working great (they were once Alesis DM10 pads which I hollowed out and turned into proper mesh heads).

First impression: positional sensing is much improved. More even volume, smoother transitions.

Hotspot suppression: this could very well be related to my trigger pads, but I'm not hearing much of a difference with it on or off. That is to say, even with it off, I already have no hotspot issues — especially compared to my previous TD-9 where this was a real and continuing problem. I spent a half hour doing rolls, turning it on and off, and I don't hear a significant difference. So, yay? I have 3 PD80Rs for toms (8 inch pads; does size matter?) and an ancient PD-120 as a snare.
Miscellaneous Roland triggers. ED-10 + ED-4. MacBook Pro (2015), 16G RAM, Big Sur. Superior Drummer 3. Logic Pro.

Awesome, thanks Rob.

With the metal cymbals, when changing the dual zone to single zone (by selecting mono input), I have no option for edge or bell sense - is this something that's not possible with the metal cymbal algorithm, or just a bug?

Confirmed bug. The hotspot on/off button isn't working. It's always on. The work around is to turn the suppress control all the way down.

I would like to see some data from your pad as you hit the hotspot. If you can capture some and email it to me, that would be great.

I think metal cymbals are definitely going to work a lot better in version 1.3.1, but I'm still of the opinion that they have many shortcomings compared to traditional edrum cymbals: They are noisy, have poor edge switch sensitivity, and have hotspotting issues close to the censor. At least that's my experience with the Jobeky 18" ride I was gifted.
