Don't get me wrong; it's certainly possible to play loud and soft with just a single pair of sticks, it's just that I find it easier to do so more easily and consistently by swapping out sticks of different weights. It's all a matter of preference, ultimately.

Definitely give the rods suggestion a go though. To me, playing super fast tom rolls with sticks on a "rod kit" feels and sounds unnatural. Then again, wanting to achieve "realism" on an electronic kit is not everybody's pursuit, nor should it be. :D

agree again - for me edrums are for silent practice and convenience in recording, so 'realism' is usually what I'm looking for personally. but no reason why that should be the case for everyone, or for me all the time

will experiment with rods / mallets / etc. the roots rods/brushes/mallets sdx is back in consideration (distant and unlikely, but possible)

There are some rods/brushes presets in the SD3 Core Library. You could try those first to see if it's worth your while.

I'm unable to update my module to build 28, the editor doesn't seem to pick up that it's there.

Makes no sense to me. It would appear that this is mostly related to velocity: heavier sticks give you a consistent higher velocity, as opposed to lighter sticks. I suppose it makes sense that hotspot suppression is related to overall velocity, but that would apply equally if someone is a light hitter or a heavy hitter, regardless of what sticks they use.

I’m just venturing a guess here but it seems it’s all about the transients. A mallet with a big impact area might create totally different ADSR then a stick with a small arrow tip. Knowing the stick type the eDRUMin can apply different algorithms for things like PS and hot spot suppression.

I've been researching this issue for the past year, and really hard core these last few days, and I still can't really explain it. I think it comes down mostly to momentum and inertia and how easily can the sticks bounce back after an impact. I've made lots of progress. Fingers crossed that I'll have something to share with you guys by the end of the week.

Fascinating. Bounciness depends on type of meshhead, tension, stick weight, velocity, grip, playing technique. Lots of factors.

But then you will have to account for type of mesh head too... bounciness is different between a remo silent stroke and a drumtec real feel...
