I think a lot of DIY for crash are dual zone.
Question for a neophyte like me : could the hotspot algorithm work for the hotspot on the bow?
How I’m calibrating now... like you I find if I hit all the pieces of the drum; head, rim and rim shot it doesn’t come out quite right.
I now just hit the head and then manually adjust everything else. I seem to get better results. I’m not sure if I take anything away from the calibration process but I find if I calibrate all of it the gain is usually too low and I have to hit the head really hard to get full velocity. I don’t preclude that I’m calibrating wrong but it works for me.
I think the calibration of the heads is very good. It means more dynamic playing and hits that emulate the force required to make a loud sound on an acoustic kit.
I just wish I could fix the rim at the moment. Can anyone share an image of their settings for optimum rim on centre piezo snare?
There are no hidden values being adjusted during calibration. The velocity of rim hits are simply derived from the magnitude of the vibration on the head piezo multiplied by the xstick scaler.
