I have never owned a Roland module so I don’t know. The only person I know that uses Jobeky metal cymbals and a Roland module is Luke Oswald. I also know someone using FIELD with a Mimic.Rob wrote:When metal 3-zone cymbal is plugged into a Roland module, what are the dynamics on the bell like?

Re: Zildjian LV converted test
I’ve always thought the dynamics and separation between the bell and bow were pretty good on my td12. Accurate enough for me at least. I don’t record but just play along to tracks and jam with friends. My experience is with a modified k custom session ride. I use a 3D printed now and edge trigger and the bell is wired to a separate output and I treat it like two different cymbals in the module. It’s a medium weight ride and I only use a rubber u channel for dampening. With that said the LV cymbal I just got definitely exhibits more vibrations with the rubber on than the Zildjian. I want to go the LV route so I can have my Zildjian for acoustic work plus the stick noise on the LV cymbal is much more tolerable. I’m still in the process of finishing the LV conversion but almost there.Rob wrote:When metal 3-zone cymbal is plugged into a Roland module, what are the dynamics on the bell like?
The Zildjian, due to its thickness and bronze, has a very abrasive stick noise. So bad I’ve been using rubber practice tips on my sticks but my goal is to eliminate those. They make the sticks tip heavy and don’t feel natural particularly when playing fast singles. And they are unnaturally bouncy.
I sold my td12 to fund a ed10. I have an ed4 I can test out my K ride on but from my understanding the ed10 behaves quite differently so I’m tempted to just wait until it arrives in the mail. Plus I’d like to try it with my new LV design. This is all way more info than you asked for...

Re: Zildjian LV converted test
Really interesting thread.
There's also Goedrum that sells triggers to build a 3 zone ride that way and I was planning to buy them for the eDRUMin since I bought LV Cymbals to convert them.
I will follow the discussion to see if buying those will work or if I should consider other solutions.
I assume if it works with Jobeky or Field it will work with them too?
Here's a picture how they build them : https://www.instagram.com/p/CB4sW6EgIHb/
There's also a video on YouTube by ProjectBeats that uses them with a Td17.

Re: Zildjian LV converted test
I still found strange to read that those cymbals are wired like a CY15 but that they have a piezo under the bell. It's contradictory, unless there some electronic to convert the piezo signal into a switch signal...Mylo wrote:I’ve owned a Jobeky Real Feel and FIELD 3-zone ride. Metal cymbals by nature are very different beasts then their rubber counterparts.AKA Wayne wrote:Has anyone tried a three zone ride with the bell piezo on a separate input?

Dave, are you able to shed any light on this please?Chetty wrote: ...

Take one for them the team and try one, it's not like they are 200 bucks...thenewdrummer wrote:Really interesting thread.

Also we are not discussing whether these cymbals work with roland, they work with all roland modules that accept a 2 input 3 zone ride...

Re: Zildjian LV converted test
Well it's not like they are "wired" exactly but "work" as a cy-15, when you buy them he asks you with which module are you going to use it, I said mimic, but I sold the mimic before the cymbal arrived so now I'm left with a 2 zone ride, not Dave's fault, it's all mineSly wrote: I still found strange to read that those cymbals are wired like a CY15 but that they have a piezo under the bell. Re: Zildjian LV converted test
yes, I tried that, the bow became then a bell zone... tried a splitter using the bow/bell piezos, no bell... I gave upAKA Wayne wrote:Has anyone tried a three zone ride with the bell piezo on a separate input?
Re: Zildjian LV converted test
When a module reads a switch, it's simply measuring the voltage across the ring and ground connection. When the switch isn't pressed, it reads 0V, and when the switch is pressed it reads some arbitrary amount of voltage. Well a piezo produces a voltage when it's stimulated, so I module can can read that voltage just like it was a switch. The problem is that different modules have different thresholds for the amount of voltage needed before they say "yes, the switch was definately pressed". I will make Dave's life a lot easier by reading the bell peizo properly, and adding a threshold control so users can fine tune the cutoff between bow and bell.
Re: Zildjian LV converted test
Great info, should be post in the DIY section of Vdrums forum, I can't remember having read that somewhere before. And it could interess some guys.
The bell piezo must be very hot I guess, because yesturday I test it with my tom (which has a very sensitive rim piezo), and no way to trigger the bell if pad type is set to CY-15.
Sorry Dave for our curiousity, maybe you would prefer to keep this design secret. If so, I can promise not to tell it and those lines could be erased.
