Since my Lenovo laptop is just edrumming I have it load my VST host (Cantabile) on startup. It loads the last kit I was using. That makes restarting painless.

Might I recommend an Intel NUC. I picked up this kit: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... i5bek.html

I put 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD to complete it. Ended up around $600.

You've got me interested in the NUC for my next upgade. What's the graphics solution for this? On the chip? I usually find that's my bottleneck for real time VSTi

Integrated. It uses the Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics 655 according to the specs. When doing the research I saw where the NUC using the Core i5 8th Gen performed better graphically across the board then the newer 9 and 10 Generations which use the UHD graphics.

Not really.... I bought it for its size, it’s so tiny. About the size of an eDRUMin10. Can be worked into your rack very easily.

And having a Thunderbolt 3 port was important to my design because I wanted to power and run a touchscreen monitor with just one cable. Thunderbolt 3 gave me that and this NUC has one.

The NUC wasn’t really an option until the ED10 was released. In my original design I didn’t want to use a USB hub so I needed at least 4 USB ports to accommodate four ED4s and a 5th USB port for my audio interface. The NUC only has four USB ports.
