Hi Hat pedal issue

Post by evh0u812 »

Just wondering if I have found a bug but Im running 3 modules with my hihat pedal, an FD9 plugged into one of them.
Periodically I loose the close chick even though the pedal moves through the full range of 0-127. Note selected for the chick is correct. Only fix is to recalibrate the pedal every time and it comes back until I reboot the PC then we have to do it again. Other thing is all three modules show the pedal moving in the editor regardless of which one I have selected on screen which gets annoying and a little frustrating. Can anyone else running multiple modules confirm if the onscreen pedals move when looking at a module your not plugged into? Superior Drummer 3 is the software Im using not that I think that has any bearing on the problem.

I'm not sure about the first issue, but the second is already fixed and will be included in the next update

Hi,
I encountered the same bug about losing the chick sound every time I start the computer. It only happens with the FD9, not with my FD8 pedal.
The easiest fix is to change the travel value slightly and then back to the initial value. That brings back the chick sound. It's a much faster way than recalibrating.

Best regards,
Pim

Thanks pim. That's useful information. I'll see if I can reproduce the issue, but that definitely points me in the right direction.

Too good guys. I realised today that moving the travel value fixes the issue. Well not fixes but its quicker!
Thanks for the speedy bug fixes. This is why I bought three of these and ditched the Megadrum and Alesis Strike.
As a side note Rob, I posted here because I figured others may have similar issues and this becomes a sort of knowledge bank for future searches. Would you prefer any issues like this just go straight to Tech Support?

It's a double edged sword. I would like to have to forums to be filled with useful information and not littered with bug reports, but at the same time your post got pim's attention and led me directly to the issue. I guess eDRUMin is still young and when the little quirks are all taken care of, the topics of conversation won't be about issues anymore.

While waiting from Rob to respond to my ticket, I was wondering if there was an easy solution to this:
If I start closing the pedal from half way or anywhere other than the top, I don't get the pedal close note. I adjusted the travel parameter to 90 as I assumed that means that the note is triggered when the pedal crosses 90, but that didn't help. Maybe this parameter doesn't change when the trigger is detected, just when it's output to the VST. Here's a video (there's actually sound too but it's recorded very low): https://youtu.be/g78DmeEVCNg

Judging by the UI, it looks like the min parameter has a say in this, but according to the manual that just controls what velocities are considered, not the height of the pedal. I also tried to turn min off completely without any improvement.
Any idea how I can fix this to realistically replicate a hi-hat close, meaning having the "pedal close" note when the hats would normally touch each other? Ideally I should be able to lift the pedal very minimally and subsequently close it, and still get a pedal close, like you could be doing when timekeeping with the hats.

I think the way it's coded now, you need to lift your foot 80% off before you can trigger pedal again.

Hihat pedal sounds is tricky business. I'm working on some new features right now, but I'll revisit the hihat implementation at some point in the future.
