Myrk membranes
Re: Myrk membranes
Hey Rob. Did the update and still getting the warning. The light blinked 25 times.
Re: Myrk membranes
That's indicating that there isn't that your ring circuit isn't acting like an open circuit. There's some resistance there. I google myrk membrane, and there's not a whole lot of information about what a myrk membrane is. Is there a more technical term I should search for?
At any rate, as it is currently implemented, there's no way to use that myrk membrane with an eDRUMin. The only solution is add an option in the UI to disable the compatibility test. Do any commercial drum pads use myrk membranes?

Re: Myrk membranes
Seems like that is the same type of switch pretty much all cymbals use. It's looking very likely that there's an issue with your myrk membrane.

eBay is the only place I found info on these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Myrk-Membrane- ... 2374396991
The description has some information that might be helpful.
Re: Myrk membranes
That’s unfortunate. It works fine with my td12. I know a lot of people use these for diy.
Could it be an issue with my 1/8 to 1/4 adapter cord?
Is it possible to an an option to disable the test?

Re: Myrk membranes
Hi Rob,
Mryk is a vdrums forum participant who does a lot of DIY and a while back decided to have some of his designs manufactured in small batches. I understood the membrane to be a switch that comes in 90 degree sections of different diameters, I purchased a couple of the 16" units. They are nicely made and come with 3M backing to apply them to cymbals. I applied them to the underneath of a pair of Pintech 16 practice cymbals that I already had mounted a piezo on. I soldered the leads from the membrane to a pair of wires that go to sleeve and ring on the same TRS jack that has sleeve and tip connected to the piezo. These are working connected to my MegaDrum with the cymbal set as a two zone (piezo for the first, switch for the second). I had no idea how to make it work until Ignotus on the MegaDrum forum instructed me to start at threshold 1 on the switch and raise it one at a time until I saw choke (aftertouch) response. I think it started working at 3 which is where it's set.
Some people are using them for edge triggering.

AKA Wayne,
In that vdrums thread posted by dsteinschneider you mention building a hi-hat with these membranes and from what I read you did exactly what I want to do... put the membrane underneath the top hi-hat cymbal. It looks like you had some success but the links to your pictures seem to be broken. Do you still have the pictures? I’d be interested in seeing them.

Hi Wayne,AKA Wayne wrote:Tell me how to post a pic and I will. I have my membranes on top btw.
I use a free account at flickr.com I made just for sharing photos on forums. Once I upload the photo there it has a share button. I choose BBCode and then come back here and click URL at the top of the editing box for a post. That puts which I paste the flickr BBCode link in between and voila the photo shows up here.

PS. If you go to https://www.flickr.com/photos/8793316@N04/ you can see everything I've uploaded so far including photos when I installed the UFO Drums ebridges
Re: Myrk membranes
I reread your post and it appears you put the membrane on top of the cymbal. I’d still like to see the pictures if you still have them. From that thread it looks like there is evidence that placing them underneath the cymbal will work.Mylo wrote:AKA Wayne,

Re: Myrk membranes
I don't think there is any compatibility issues with using membrane switches. I suspect there's an issue with your particular membrane switch. Do you have a multi meter? If you set it to the 200k Ohm range and measure the resistance across from the ring to the sleeve of your cable, you should read open-loop (open circuit). I suspect you'll find the resistance you get is close to 150k Ohms, which indicates a problem.AKA Wayne wrote:That’s unfortunate. It works fine with my td12. I know a lot of people use these for diy.

Might be the adapter, might be a faulty cable, might be the way you've soldered wires to the membrane, and it might be the way you attached the membrane to the pad. If you have an unused Myrk membrane, it would be helpful to measure it's resistance before it's installed and has wires soldered to it.
