Recommendation for Trigger placement

Hi, this is Frank from Germany.
After reading a thread @ vdrums.com I got caught.

I've read, that side- & center-mount is supported.

I might have missed it, but is there a recommendation, which Trigger position makes most sense to use edrumin&VST full functionality?

If center-mounted and decoupled head Piezo is used, is it Ok to place Rim Piezo also in center or should this be away from center?

Rim Piezo 35mm, center 27mm makes sense?

Background: I have a drumitfive module but I need to build Pads for it.
As the module doesn't support PS, I first thought to build side mounted Triggers.
Now, to extend the Set with with edrumin the center mounted Trigger again would make sense (I guess).

I'm sure that Rob will shed some more light on that topic but here's some generell information that I learned from my research (people might correct me if I'm wrong):

- There seems to be more hotspotting issues with center triggers but only those will give you the possibility for Positional Sensing
- Not all VSTs support PS (for example SSD5 doesn't)

So you would need to decide what you would want your DIY pads to be able to do. If your VST doesn't support PS anyways, maybe go for side-mounted ones to avoid hotspotting?

Thanks Pim, I agree to "more hot spot'ness" with center triggers. However, the edrumin Software recognizes and so correct hotspotting, right?

I think the center mounted piezo sensor is best. This is especially true when it's plugged into the eDRUMin with it's ability to reduce the hot spot. I've watched a ton of edrum related YouTube videos, you can see the sensors through the mesh, it's almost always center mounted.

Yes, the software addresses that problem. But my experience with the center mounted pads I tried was that it improves the hotspotting issues...but it doesn't fully resolve the problem, there's still hotspotting.

Maybe some more people can share their experience with the hotspot suppression so you get a better idea how accurate it is.

My personal view is that if you don't need PS, there might be better options than a center mounted cone. Roland with its new VAD line seems to take a step away from center mounted triggers as well to avoid the hotspotting issues.

But in the end, all comes down to personal needs and preferences.
