Midi expression for kick drum pedal

Post by napoo »

Hi, I´ve been searching for a way to convert a piezo trigger input into a midi note signal with velocity for my small electronic drum setup. Earlier i used an Alesis sampled, with trigger inputs, som i could have a pedal connected for kick. Recently got my long awaited boppad from KMI. It is great but has no trigger inputs. So my question is: Is there any way to use one of the MIDI expression options - to connect a piezo trigger type signal and have it converted to a midi note signal with velocity? If not - what kind of midi pedal would you suggest for such a use? I don´t want the hammer on the basedrumpedal - just a small pedal with velocity sensitivity.

MIDI Expression devices aren't designed to work with piezos, unfortunately. I hope at some point in the future to have such a device, but at this point it's still a long way off. You could use a hihat controller (Force Sensitive Resistor) type pedal and use that to generate velocity sensitive notes, but I think you will find that it's not a good a piezo / trigger based solution.

Hi,
I'm also looking for a simple and small solution to just trigger from one pad (piezo) to usb midi. I guess the MIDI Expression is built on a Teensy so it should be easy to make a version to trigger from a piezo-pad. The analog ins on Teensy could read voltage from a piezo-hit and turn it to MIDI.
Could it be possible to get such a device?
Thanks
