Planning to get an eDRUMin - Compatibility Check ?

Post by BobBob »

I have an Alesis Surge Mesh and I am planning to get an edrumin module and I am looking around to see what edrum upgrade options are available for me.

My Surge is classicaly composed of :
1x HH
1x Snare
1x Tom High
1x Tom Low
1x Floor tom
1x Kick
2x Cymbals

Does the Hihat and snare trigger arre compatible ?

If I understand it correctly, and according to the documentation, I could get an edrumin 4 and use the usb host to connect the Alesis Surge module to it for the rest of the cymbals and pads.

So I think a 4 entry eDRUMin would be enough for the 3 options :
1 TRS for HH Pedal (dedicated port)
1 TRS for HH Cymbal
1 TRS for snare
1 or 2 for the Ride Cymbal

Am I right ?

But If I want to get rid of the Alesis module altogether, an 8 would be the bare minimum (with splitters)

Thx for your help.

Yep on all counts.

Small add-ons....

- MIDI-ing into the module, you may need to change some notes in the ED to match the notes in the Alesis module.
- If you ditch the module for an ED8, you will need a computer to trigger a VST.
- Also consider Dave at Diamond Percussions as he has an eDRUMin unit and he can make a preset for your new snare. Dave is amazing at replying and discussing options with his customers... Jobeky, not so much.

Hello, thx for all the tips.

I already use my Surge with SSD5 as VST so I technically could drop the module.

Have a nice day.

I was in same boat, Surge and SSD5.5, got EDI4 last Dec, Just added an EDI8 last month. Wish I woulda got the EDI8 or 10 to start. Just my $0.02.
Alesis Surge w/ 5 tom pads, an A2E kids 16" kick, 6 Alesis 10" 1-zone w/ choke cymbals, Lemon 12" 2-zone 2pc hihat, and a 15" 3-zone ride into an EDI8+EDI4+Surge module using SD3/SSD5.5 in Logic on a Mid-2015 MBP with Mac OS Sequoia.

Hi There,
I am new to the forum and have ordered an eDrumin10 which is on its way. I currently use all Yamaha pads, cymbals and Hi-Hat (RHH135) with DTX900 and an older DTXpress4 module chained together - triggering SD3 so I don't use module sounds.
I have bought a Roland VH-10 Hi-Hat so that is why I am getting the edrumin10 as I want to get better and more realistic Hi Hat performance. I also have a PCY175 cymbal and wanted to check if the eDrumin10 will support positional sensing on this cymbal or is this functionality only available on new Yamaha modules (eg DTX-ProX). Any feedback would be much appreciated. Also will I get any benefits from moving inputs from the DTXPress4 (and/or DTX900) to fill the the 10 edrumin inputs - and take advantage of the edrumin capabilities ? Thanks

Yamaha cymbals work very well with eDrumin10 - I have several.

Positional sensing is not supported though.

An eDRUMin 8 is on it's way via Airmail. Ordered the 9/12, left airport the 11/12, now waiting for it to pop up on the other side.
Crossing fingers and checking the tracking every day :D
