DIY: finally, 3-ply+hotspotless+positional sensing

Post by nemo »

Eventually I managed to create a monster, where almost everything can be tuned:
-height of cones
-balance between center and outer zone (pot)
-strength of rim signal (pot)
... actually it wasn't me only, the (patient) owner of trigmann.de created many hardware versions.
Tested for 10 days, so I can say it's reliable (although still a bit messy).
And this is the result.

And some more, of anybody is interested to follow:

Update: in the meantime I increased number and size of rim piezos from 2 to 4 (35mm) due to new rim protector

Just noticed, I created the topic in the wrong place :-(
Rob, could you help and move to DIYers?
Thanks in advance and sorry :-(

Whoa that is a monster. So you don't reverse polarity the center piezos? Also what setting do you use?

Nope, I do not reverse polarity. But if needed, it's easily doable from the bottom side :-D
I use settings for center piezo for now. But again, in case I need to get rid of the center part and use 3-piezo-settings, I can easily lower (and/or disconnect) the center cones.
For now even Rob admits the ps works a bit better with the center trigger.

Hi nemo

Great build buddy.i like the plywood (3ply). Thinking revamp my 3D print center cone and add edge triggers also.

Where did you purchase the cones?
Are the platforms for the triggers metal or 3D print?

Hi Ronyd and thanks :-)

Please be aware that in the meantime I increased number and size of rim piezos from 2 to 4 (35mm) due to new rim protector. I updated the thread on vdrums but forgot to do it here.
No other changes since.

Looks great. So just to clarify you have all cones touching the head and active and the Edrumin is set to centre cone?

This is genius. Kind of the holy grail for a snare if it works as well as it looks it does.

I have an un-tameable center hot spot and have been considering a replacement for my Alesis crimson 2. Not sure if I can be tempted into another side-project at this point but... :?
