A question about using edrumin as a Host Device...

I would like to connect a slave module to an edrumin via the host device jack to expand trigger inputs. Is it possible for features from the edrumin like positional sensing or bell sense to work on the triggers hooked up to the slave module, even if the slave module does not have those features on board? Or do both the edrumin and slave module have to support them for that to work?

The short answer to the question is "it depends on the module". Have a look at this video showing what Luke was able to achieve using an eDRUMin with the Mimic Pro (of course nowadays, the mimic supports positional sensing natively).

No problem, it was a temp mail address anyway so no worries. I had heard of the trick you're talking about before, and I watched the video.

Sorry I failed to mention that I don't want to use the slave module's sounds; but instead use a VST, so the direction of the signals would be the opposite way (pad->slave module->edrumin->VST), not (pad->edrumin->slave module) like the video.

He is using a trick to trigger different sounds on the slave module itself, by fooling the module into thinking the positional sensing MIDI notes from the edrumin are coming from different zones on a pad. Whereas my goal is to trigger positional sensing on VST via trigger inputs directly connected to the slave module that pass through the edrumin via the host port.

and program it to translate the midi info from the edrumin in to the slave module or viceversa, providing your slave module has a midi in port, if not you'll need a midi merger like this:

Yeah, having to add another device over complicates things and isn't really economically feasible. I guess the edrumin's own positional sensing feature would normally be isolated to just the trigger inputs that are on the edrumin then. At that point I would just ditch the module and get two edrumins to handle all my pads and just use a VST.

I didn't know this, but it turns out most VSTs don't even have articulations for positional sensing on instruments outside of the snare, ride, and hihat, so I wouldn't even need positional sensing on all my pads. Thus it looks like I'll settle on the edrumin 4 daisy-chained with my module to my PC for now, at least until VST makers decide to actually get with the times.
