I'd say it oscillates up and down quickly before coming to a rest.
Hmmm, that's how I'd describe my loose setup. My thought being that any higher spring tension that would help keep the pedal to your foot, preventing the pad moving when hit and changing the CC would mean that when you remove your foot quickly it fires up and hits the end of possible movement with enough force to trigger the pad.

Are the VH10's i use particularly light?

I was just going to try helping someone in forums and realised I've forgotten more about how this awesome gizmo works and it's capabilities than I remember and should may be stop trying to "help" you make it even better

Honestly, things have been so good for so long I haven't messed around with it much in ages.

I hope thats what you meant by settings

Have you tried turning up the xtalk control on the hihat pedal?

HAHA! my man!
kind of reminds of a Futurama scene.

Rob: It was simply a matter of outsmarting them!

Me: I never would of thought of that.

In my defence, the indicator never passed what I had it set at. but I should have thought about it.

You are a legend Rob! Thank you.

Hi Rob, Hello All,

Just upgraded to 2.3.0.12 and decided to give a chance an old 12" Alesis pad with regards to positional sensing for 3-cone pads.

Until now I was busy with my own setup based on teensy and 3 cones with a simple trilateration algorithm on 14" and real-feel (midi from teensy goes through edrumin 10) - I got inspired by https://github.com/corrados/edrumulus, but instead of trying to understand just wrote my own. So for those of you who would like to go this way - it works.

Anyway, back to the main topic - the Alesis pad has complicated construction, but definitely NOT based on 3 cones. It did not work previously with positional sensing either, esp. with real feel...
So I was very surprised when I discovered, that using the 3 cones settings it works reliably. Surprise. This is Rob to let you know, I guess you asked for it at the beginning of this thread. Honestly, I don't know why or how it is possible, etc. - one thing is clear though: you created a wonderful piece of hardware & software and it really goes beyond any imagination now :D

For Rob (who will be probably curious why it works) and those interested in this pad: all I know about is it has printed on the bottom U.S. Patent 9,424,827
So you can take a look at its construction: https://patents.google.com/patent/US9424827B2/en
Maybe you guys already have an old stuff somewhere - worth trying, just to let Rob know how and where to go further with this great 3-cone idea.

Regards,
GC

Btw. my idea for further development would be to try to go edrumulus' path, like eg. try to encode signal from 3 piezos (I do not know much about electronics, thus used teensy with 3+1 piezos and some basic setup: diodes+resistors) and use trilateration - then one can quite exactly know the point of hit. And this would open the new 3-cone world for diy-ers.

Something like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZXtSe5p0rs&t=16s
... and in the end we may achieve more sections/zones on snare :D

Well I bought a ATV 13" snare and tested it with the atv preset, sad to say positional sensing didn't work, not sure what to say there... center hits, off center hits everywhere, it was all over the place, the head was tight enough, didn't mess with the settings, it doesn't work man.
Just so I have this straight, because I'm going to try my ATV with my eDrumin 10...

You just plugged it in and booted the preset but didn't "mess with the settings?" At all? And then you said it simply doesn't work? I'm surprised you didn't try modifying some of the settings to optimize it for your ATV ad-13. Even head tension could easily be the culprit. For any implementing of PS that I've tried (PMP with ATV, Roland TD-30, etc.) even head tension has been imperative to get it to work well.

I'm just seeing that post now. Not sure why Lalo was/is having issues.

I didn't do anything to my ATV snare. I built the preset around the pad as I received it. No adjustments to tension or anything.

I wonder if you might develop more optimal algorithms if you were to first ensure you have even head tension before doing so. I believe that's worth looking into. Even head tension helps ensure that there are no artifacts of a loose lug going rogue in terms of the physics of head transients around the surface of the head.

I believe some of this is verging on DIY topic. I have fun updates about my own 3+1 Piezo Pad and the edrumin. Check it out in the DIY section if interested.
