Kind of curious.
The digital pads are pretty sweet. How cool if that could be an option (or perhaps on your future ED8) ....
Im assuming this however would be a LOT of work, and not a ton of people would take advantage of this at the moment (the DIY community arent the ones buying 1000$ VH14's) Thoughts?!?
Question for Rob. Could the USB ED10 host input ever be used for a digital pad?!? Like the Roland snare or VH14

They're already supported, although only in Roland's limited fashion, which means no positional sensing.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think you can use them by plugging them directly into your computer or a powered USB hub.

Is the vh14d compatible?! Are the trigger and CC controller in the USB path?!?
I could see that requiring specific coding for a rare scenario

All the Roland digital pads are usb class compliant. The VH14D sends cc data over usb so you can use the hihat over usb. I've used all three pads without a Roland module. You loose positional sensing however. I've given up on them though. I've found that the ATV hats give me bow, edge, bell, and are very responsive with the edrumin. Maybe not quite as good as VH14s and a TD-50, but 95+% of the way there. For use with edrumin/SD3 I wouldn't waste my money on the VH14s. The snare works well over USB. Head, Rim Shot, Cross Stick all work (you'll loose rim only) but the loss of positional sensing was a deal breaker for me. The ride is probably the best choice for use over usb. Edge, Bow, Bell all work, and the loss of positional sensing on the ride to me isn't that big of a deal. All three produce the standard Roland midi notes for their respective articulations. The digital pads in combination with a TD50 are amazing. Owning that setup for gigs and having edrumins in combination with SD3 for home use I can tell you that you CAN get very comparable results with less costly (still expensive) pads.

Interesting. So you were able to use the vh14d over usb and it sent the cc4 controller data over usb enabling full hi hat usage without a separatehi hat contriller cord plugged in?!? The vh14d is quite cost prohibitive but I am just curious about some future projects. I like the concept of the larger more sensitive pads and position sensing isn't crucial to me.

Yes, the VH14 sends cc4 along with the midi notes for bow and edge. (can't recall the notes off the top of my head) So it does work with a VST using a USB cable to a hub or whatever USB input device you want to use. Side note.... you will have to press hard/ fast to get a closed pedal articulation but it sends that note too. At least that's how mine worked anyway. Adjusting the velocity range in SD3 makes up for that. Special projects aside, for me the ATV 14"hats work very well with edrumin and SD3. I would post some configuration info maybe on another thread if anyone is interested. I'm using the notes mode in combination with CC so its fairly complex. The Roland Digital Pads are amazing but their best use case IMHO is with a TD50/X/27. The modules don't even send all articulations via midi to VST so there will always be some sacrifice when not using the internal Roland sounds (yuck).

Very interesting. Thanks for filling me in. As it is I have never had great reliable position sensing on my edrumin kit. Perhaps I need to tweak more but I'm not too fussy about that feature
Rob can you comment if this vh14d CC implementation is better and more accurate then going through the HH ports?!? In previous posts u mention the improvements to the hi hat cc accuracy and I am curious if the vh14d would offer the best hi hat experience?!?

The new drum-tec multi-sensor snare seems to attempt to be an analog equivalent to Roland's digital snare.
https://www.drum-tec.com/drum-tec-pro-3-snare-drum
I would think that it would work with edrumin and still provide positional sensing.
Has anyone tried it yet?
