two drums hit at the exact same time cutting each other off

Post by phillwilson »

I seen to have a strange issue...

if I hit two drums (im useing an edrumin 4 with 2box triggit sensors) at the exact same time, sometimes, one of the hits is not registering...I am trying this at quite a few velocities and it seems to be equally likely to happen no matter if I am playing soft, medium or hard.

I have connected a midi monitor whilst hitting and I can clearly see that when hitting two drums at the exact same time, for example, my snare and rack tom ( inputs 2 and 3) there is probability of about a 1 in every 5 hits one will not register that any midi hit has been sent.

its like one is cancelling out the other.

if only one or the other is hit, I dont see any drop out from either when hit on its own, only when two are hit together..as if one is choking the other.

any ideas?

Glad to see your device is working properly! Try adjusting the xtalk controsl below the gain slider

thanks for such a quick reply,

sorry is this is a dumb question.. if I am looking for the ability to have two drums be triggered at exactly the same time WITHOUT cutting each other off.. should I be aiming for LOW X-talk values or High ones ideally?

also, just to be clear, I am talking about not being able to play two drums at the same time ( one midi note being repressed even though i hit both drums as similar force) , i am not talking about hitting one drum and having a different drum trigger, just in case there is any confusion.

Rereading my reply, I came off as a jerk--sorry. Increasing the crosstalk level, increases the chance that a double hit won't succeed. The crosstalk control is well covered in the manual. I'll point you there.

Thats no worries at all Rob and thank you for the follow up reply, I think that will arm me with everything I need to know.

My Edrumin4 is from the very early 3d printer generation so I don't think I have ever seen this manual before, the videos were awesome but only got me so far ,

Also, to be fair, I am using MY edrumin i for a very non standard use ( I am co-designing a means of turning drum trigger data into midi to drive melodic synths...so my usage case is on the periphery of the general designed features, so I wasn't sure if what I needed was even possible.

all the best
