USB vs Powered hub for 2xE4s and 1xE10

Post by negativei »

Running 3 boxes to a hub getting signal to either the E10/E4 that are linked directly or the 3rd E4 that goes to the usb powered hub. Haven’t gotten all 3 to send midi data back to the module simultaneously. Wondering if there’s a low power issue at the hub (if it’s a power issue at all).

When I do a midi monitor check I’m generally always getting a signal to the E4 but not reading back at the module. Module is a PIPES unit by Synesthesiacorp. Any ideas? Hitting up Synesthesiacorp as well.

Just to add, currently hunting down another Edrummin 10 just to streamline things and that may clear up whatever weird issue I’m having. Current issue is irking me though!

I would connect the hub to the ED10 host port, and then the 2 ED4s to the hub.

Hmmm so all to the hub. No direct daisy chaining. Let me try it out. Thanks.

Still in the dark after attaching hub to host port. Not getting any power from module usb to Ed10 but can get E4 power. If I connect hub to module I can get power to the 10 and a single 4 but never both.

You have it connected similar to the picture below? There's a pic of a Yamaha module in there, but you can connect the second ED4 in it's place.

Yes sir. Exactly as pictured minus the computer. Tried a USB 3.0 (which I assume shouldn’t be an issue since 3.0 is backwards compatible) hub left everything dead. The 2nd hub (not sure if it’s 2.0 specific) worked except not recognizing midi out. Found a loose connector just now so will repeat your steps as per diagram with new connections and go from there.

The usb host port button (little white button) should be pressed in on the E10 unit correct?
