Help with ideal settings for Lemon cymbal pad

Post by Demon »

Hello everyone, first post here...

I recently got an eDRUMin 4 that I connect to my computer and use with EZDrummer 3.

At the moment, I have a Lemon ride that I use as a crash (I only use one of the two cable inputs on the cymbal, as I don't need the bell on it, just the edge.

Problem: I have to hit the cymbal pretty hard to get a crash sound. It sounds great, but I would like to be able to hit it softly as well, to get a less-velocity crash sound. I have other cymbals connected to the module (Strike Pro) and they sound fine when I hit them either hard or soft. I only hit a cymbal really hard when it is necessary, which is not often. This only cymbal that I have connected to the eDRUMin 4 is having this issue. I have been trying different settings, but it seems I just make things worse (noob here!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your time.

If you connect the Lemon to your Strike, do you have issues trigger the edge with soft hits? Using the eDRUMin UI and disregarding the sounds that EDZ is producing, can you confirm that soft/medium force hits on the edge of the cymbal are incorrectly trigger 'bow' and hard hits on the edge are correctly triggering 'edge'?

Hi Rob, thanks for your time and reply. That's a great question and I should have tested this prior to posting for more background...

I connected the Lemon to the module and it behaves as it should, so the settings on the module are correct and the eDRUMin should be corrected?

Still one more question to go... Just in case I wasn't clear, I'm talking about the note labels.

Hi again Rob, apologies for the delayed reply. I am in Australia and it is late here. But I got up to check this for you!

Now, with the cymbal connected to the eDRUMin:

A) HITTING THE EDGE
A1) Hitting the cymbal very gently on the edge: The GAIN meter moves up very slightly, but there is no "hit" registered and no sound comes out of EZDrummer 3. Also EZDrummer 3 seems not to register any hits.

A2) Hitting the cymbal a little bit harder on the edge (still very gentle though), the BOW note lights up slightly and the EDGE note does not register any hit. EZDrummer 3 does a tiny bit of sound and if I hit it slightly harder it sounds like a loud crash.

A3) Hitting it harder, both the BOW note lights up red and when hitting it really hard the EDGE note light up as well. The sound from EZDrummer 3 is a loud crash.

B) HITTING THE BOW
B1) Hitting the bow gently the GAIN meter moves up very slightly, but there is no "hit" registered and no sound comes out of EZDrummer 3. Also EZDrummer 3 seems not to register and hits.

B2) Hitting the bow slightly harder, the BOW light lights up a bit and EZDrummer 3 makes soft bow sounds.

B3) Hitting the bow harder, the BOW light lights up red.

So when you said "can you confirm that soft/medium force hits on the edge of the cymbal are incorrectly trigger 'bow' and hard hits on the edge are correctly triggering 'edge'?", well that is pretty much spot on.

Just in case, these are my current settings. Surely I have something wrong, but I am trying to learn! :)

The screenshot of your settings tells me you need to start by watching the video below. Let me know if the issue persists once you have the settings dialed in somewhat. Also, I would turn off positional sensing until everything else is working.

Hey Rob, Thanks so much for this. I'll give it a go tomorrow morning (or as soon as I can) and let you now how it goes. Cheers!

Hello again Rob,

Thank you so much, not only did this help with my problem, but I also learnt a bit more about the software and what everything means.

Cheers!!!
