Hi rob,

thankx for the correction of my wiring diagram.

Low Volume 20" Zildjian L80:

Seems my piezos is pretty hot. Bow Piezo in mounted in a project box sitting on a double adhesive foam dot. Box is mounted on the cymbal with brass screws. Bell piezo attached directly on cymbal sitting on a double adhesive foam dot.

questions:
1. do i need to use a limiting resistor in parallel to limit the piezo?
2. Is edge detection based on the velocity hitting the cymbal?
3. what is the purpose of the Scaler and do I adjust this or let the Calibration take care of that?

If you have limited time on your hands, I can post in the DIYers if you like.

If the signal is too hot, you can try adding a 30K (or something close to that) series resistor on the piezo. For the Metal cymbal pad types, edge detection is typically handled by a membrane switch attached to the edge of the cymbal, although they can be tricky to get working properly. The note velocities of the bell and edge articulation are derived from the main piezo and multiplied by the scaler controls. I think it's probably best to manually adjust the scalers on a metal cymbal.
