Leaving ED10s powered when not in use

Post by pumpkinking »

Hi folks. I have noticed that I sometimes forget to switch off the power to my primary ED10 when I'm done with a session, sometimes leaving it powered on but idle for a couple of days (the Mac it is connected to sleeps, but the USB power it seems does not). The power switch and thus indicator lights for my 2 boxes are on the ends that, in my configuration, face the floor. Given that the 10 inputs are on the other end, to route the cabling most efficiently this is the way I have mounted both of them, and that would not be easy to change.

A suggestion for future hardware changes might be to have a way for indicator light(s) to be seen from either end. Clearly this is my issue, but if there were a light on the other end I would see it as I walk past for sure.

I do have a question though: should I worry for either the components in the ED10s or the sensors in the triggers when they stay powered for days at a time?

I usually leave my ED10 powered up. I don't really know in the USB powered device world if this is true, but I manage fleets of PC's and have first hand seen that ones left on in a sleep state fail less frequently then ones that are powered off every night.

Thanks for the responses. Just want to report back that I've been leaving mine on most of the time since these responses and have suffered no ill effects. Thanks for the help!
