Question on using my ED10 or ED4 with other VST’s

Post by Rabidreject »

Hi guys,
Been a while since I’ve posted around here, I been busy actually making use of my ED’s and recording music.

I have a question but it’s on a bit of a different note. Not sure if it would work or not.

Ok so when I’m making a track I almost always use the same plugins and general layout. I have my drums in one track stack, guitar in another and bass DI and bass FX in a third track stack.
It’s actually amazing how similar the methods I use for each track are.
With guitar in particular, I quite often find that when I’m recording a part, I would like to control one or more of the parameters whilst I am recording so that it ‘feels’ right.

I understand that it’s possible to set up extra TRS sustain pedals and such the like for controlling elements other than the HH control (not that I have actually tested it out yet),
However, where it is not a drum VST I wasn’t sure.
I tend to use IK M’s Amplitube 5 but I do have some other amp modellers as well (guitar rig, logics amp designer and the waves equivalent (not that I can remember all the names).
I imagine I would be able to do it, provided one of the above programs actually supports MIDI CC’s in a guitar amp modeller.
If anyone has any experience with this and could point me in the right direction that would be super.

Also on a sort of different sort of the same note, I believe it would work because I have used my ED devices to control and record with Ezbass so I do know that it obviously works with different VSTi’s, I’m just not sure if Amplitube or any other guitar modellers use MIDI as a way of controlling/communicating with the settings…

Thanks!

I'm sure pretty much any performance plugin will respond to MIDI. Typically you just create a MIDI track send set the output of the MIDI track to whichever plugin you want to control. What DAW are you using?

Plenty of people are using MIDI sent via a pedal to simulate whammy bars, wah-wah pedals, etc...

Shouldn't be a problem.
