Question: when I have kit set to drum map kit pieces should I still see note banks (1 2 3 4)?

Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
Today I finally had time to set up a SD3 FIelds of Rock SDX drum map and a Roland TD-17 drum map. First, V2 must have taken a ton of work on the part of Rob and I want to say thank you. I think this new drum map kit pieces is much better than note banks. I’ll still use note banks but differently now. Previously I would use note banks to do full global kits changes, and honestly it was clunky. Now, I can use note banks for specific pads to change a cowbell to a tambourine for example. Much more useful. I think V2 is a significant improvement I would not have expected this improvement 1 year ago when I bought my first unit.
Now some possible bugs or comments:
- i have two HHs on ED4 and one pedal input (VH13). I have pedal set to kit pieces and HH cymbals set to HH cymbal vs kit pieces HH cymbal. That is the only way I seemed to get it to work. Using kit pieces for the HH cymbals and kit pieces for HH pedal there seems to be a link broken. However, with the setup I have when I changed the drum map from SD3 to Roland the HH cymbals updated to the drum map (even though not set to kit pieces, only pedal was kit pieces).
- When I select a drum map on ED10 and use the eDRUMin logo to send drum map to all devices that does not seem to work. I have to load the drum map on both devices by double clicking from the preset manager on each device. So for example I just selected the SD3 drum map on ED10. I went to the eDRUMin logo, “send drum maps to all devices” was greyed out. I selected it anyways. I checked ED4 it was still in Td-17 drum map. Then I went back to ED10 selected the logo again and this time “send drum maps to all devices” was green. I thought this was the golden ticket and would work so I selected it. No joy. Did not work. ED4 was still in TD-17 drum map.
- the Roland factory drum map did not work for TD-17. The only issues were the HH MIDI notes. For TD-17 HH bow is 46, HH edge is 26 (the open notes / not closed notes), and splash is 23. HH pedal note is correct.
- there are so many awesome little details in V2 so I hate to complain…however. There is no pop up or description of the kit pieces until you select them for an input. Then it shows Crash 1, for example, above the velocity curve and next to the kit pieces button. It would be great if in the editor there was a pop up that said crash 1 when you hovered over it. Same thing for the inputs if you could hover over the input (not select it) and get a pop up with what’s it called.
- lastly, I can’t see the purpose for note banks and kit pieces. It may make sense but I didn’t see anything in the manual excerpt on this post explaining what note banks do for kit pieces. I accidentally manually changed a note bank for the HH pedal, and I noticed the the TD-17 was no longer receiving pedal notes. Even though the MIDi notes for that note bank and kit piece appeared to be correct. Seems to be an error.

Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
You've set it up correctly. I've since updated the manual to make the setup more clear. When an input is set to 'Hihat Cymbal", it will look at the hihat pedal setting to figure which notes to use. If the hihat pedal is using 'Custom Notes', then the "Hihat Cymbal" will also use its custom notes. If the pedal is set to 'Hihat Kit Piece', then the cymbal will use the Hihat kit piece from the drum map or the notes defined in the Hihat Level section of the drum map depending on whether the hihat pedal is in Levels or CC mode. It's complicated. I will definitely need to touch on that in a video.Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pm- i have two HHs on ED4 and one pedal input (VH13). I've had a few other reports of issues here, but I haven't been able to reproduce. To be clear, the 'Send maps to all devices' has to be enabled (green) before you send the drum map. Can you confirm that if its enabled (green) and you send a map to the ED10 that the ED4 also gets updated?Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pmWhen I select a drum map on ED10 and use the eDRUMin logo to send drum map to all devices that does not seem to work.
I think you will have to use Hihat Levels mode to get the hihat to trigger properly on Roland Devices, as the hihat needs to send different notes depending on whether the pedal is closed or not.Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pm- the Roland factory drum map did not work for TD-17. That's certainly possible, but I'm hesitant to do so--mostly because I'm lazy. I think once you get a bit used to the graphics, the names wouldn't be very helpful anyway. I just say perhaps at this time.Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pm- there are so many awesome little details in V2 so I hate to complain…however. Having the banks accessible when an input is set to 'Kit Piece' allows you to still change the MIDI channel of the input using a footswitch, while still using the notes defined in the map. I'm sure someone out there will use it.Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pm- lastly, I can’t see the purpose for note banks and kit pieces. It has been an insane amount of work, but I think it future proofs the device somewhat and makes it more flexible and more intuitive to use at the same time (if we forget about the confusion around hihat setups).Dadwrshpdrum wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:44 pmp. Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
With respect to sending the drum maps to MIDI devices I have seen the option gray and green. When green the option does not work. Note I have a hub and another MIDI device than a ED4 plugged into the hub as well (TD-17 module). So not sure if that would be a factor. Question- when I send the drum map to all devices I should expect the drum map to change from SD3 to Roland on a connected device? Also must you send from the ED10 to the ED4? So from the USB host to the other devices?Rob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 9:04 amI've had a few other reports of issues here, but I haven't been able to reproduce. My point on the Roland factory map is that for a factory default TD-17 module the notes are incorrect. I can’t speak to other devices. If the closed HH bow and edge notes are used then the TD-17 only plays closed notes regardless of CC4. However, if the MIDI notes are open bow and edge then CC4 works correctly. The splash note I gave you earlier I found a long time ago on a vdrum forum. Maybe there has been some HH functionally changes in Roland module generations. The vdrum forum folks may know more than me. I just know that I have not changed the default MIDI notes for HH in TD-17, and the Roland factory map must be modified to make it work.

Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
I've updated the Roland map and it'll be included in the next build.
I tested 'Send maps to all devices' on Windows and macOS and failed to reproduce your issue. You were also having auto-select issues? I wonder if perhaps the ED10 doesn't like the hub you have plugged into the host port. My setup also uses a hub in the bac of my ED10. I have an ED4, a MIDI Expression, and a iConnectMIDI4+ plugged into it. Here's a video I made to confirm that I am not able to reproduce the issue.

I’ll try it without the hub this weekend. Away from computer for a couple days. I do have one of the ED10R1s with some sort of USB issue. I forget what it was,l. I doubt that is it because I have no other issues. Like you said it is likely my hub.Rob wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:03 amI've updated the Roland map and it'll be included in the next build.

Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
Question: does this mean if a non eDRUMin MIDI device is connected to the eDRUMin USB host port the incoming MIDI from the non eDRUMin MIDI device could be transformed to another MIDI note according to an eDRUMin drum map? Color me impressed because that would be cool. Only need to change a drum map in one location then, the eDRUMin. BTW-I’m still impressed regardless of the answer. I really like the ease of V2.

Re: eDRUMin version 2 Alpha
Ya, that's the idea. It's something that Luke from the DrumWorkshop asked for. He wanted to use his digital pads connected to the USB host port to be able to send choke notes to his Mimic Pro. That feature should do the trick. I haven't completely thought all the details yet, but the idea is that you would be able to assign a factory map to each connected MIDI device and the eDRUMin would use that to translate the MIDI notes to correspond to the device drum map, and vice versa.
You wouldn't be able to have custom drum maps assigned to the USB host port MIDI devices unfortunately--there's just not enough EEPROM to do that. But there's plenty of program space, and factory drum maps can be stored in program space.
