Is this basically correct?
That is correct. Even if you didn't make any custom maps at all, at very least you get better visual feedback about what any given input is triggering.
I'm pretty much playing the same SD3 kit exclusively so this might not be the most exciting upgrade for players like me, but I'll follow along. I do have a bunch of old SD2 expansion packs lying around that I could use for testing. Thanks.

Always have - even if it is slightly annoying to have to factory reset and stuff. I just can’t resist something new!
Hi,

you don't have a factory reset when performing the new firmware installation. Only if you wanna go back to 1.6.
Anyway, perform a device snapshot!

Finally, my personal set up prior to V2 (and SD3 drum mapping flexibility) was I had note bank that worked for TD-17, another one for EZD2 and SSD5.5, and then a note bank for Gospel EZX because that was just different enough from standard EZD2 and TD-17 it needed its own note bank.
Hi, would you share these maps with me/us?
I got SD3 since January 2021 and a whole bunch of EZX and SDX and - because I thought: "Damn there must be ultimate MIDI mapping" and theroretical consideration and all together with my other MIDI controller routing and switching and Ableton Live and and and.
I was a bit lost. What do you do if you have more kit parts than your library preset. Do you have a "map" for additional notes.

I mean, now - since I guess I need a remapping for every single library it doen't really matter where to put those additional kit parts notes.
I now used to take the unused hihat note or other unused articulations.

Thanks for a short comment!

Well I haven't upgraded to test this yet as I am new to even the 1.6 version. So I am holding off and still getting used to 1.6 and came across a problem that maybe you are addressing in the new version. The problem is that when I edit an input some of the settings aren't saved as I set them. These are: gain, thresh, and hold, and i think crosstalk. I have Auto saved these and when that wasn't working I manually saved just after editing. It looks like the settings have been saved but when i go to anther input and then back to the one i saved the settings have changed ie: I set and saved the hold function to 10.3 and when I switch inputs and then come back it has been changed to 9.3. Same with the other functions for that input- they are not what I saved. I tried saving with Auto input follow disabled and still same problem. Scan, edge sense, and x-stick seem to hold saved setting ok.
Is this the first you have heard of this? Is it just me? Is there a fix for this next version? The inputs were dual mono. thanks for any help, Mbira

No builds to post, but I've been adding more custom images. I have some different color cymbals, and snares. I still need to redraw my tom icons so that I'm able to have different colors of them too--and that china looks horrible....

Hi Rob,

I finally had time to experiment with my Hall effect pedal and concluded that with 2.0 it worked better by removing the USB voltage "add-on". I put everything on auto, calibrated and it's playing well. I expanded the width of the splash bar

I've posted build 9.

The drum maps now define 32 kit pieces. I had to rearrange the location of stuff saved to EEPROM. As a result, if you are already running version 2.0.0.x on an ED4, you will need to factory reset the device and reload a saved device preset, which you should be able to do without needing to downgrade back to version 1.6. ED10 devices will be unaffected.

After you update to version 2.0.0.9, load a factory drum map onto your devices. Drum maps from version 2.0.0.8 and earlier drum maps will look all mixed up due to changing the number of kit pieces.

Change in build 9
  • Increased the number of kit pieces in drum maps, spanning them over two pages.
  • Added more kit piece images to choose from.
  • Stopped locking the preset list when editing a drum map, and will instead show a confirmation if settings might be lost.
  • Possibly fixed an issue when dismissing a confirmation before updating firmware.

Maybe one of those kit pieces on Page 2 to should be for the ride bell?

I been playing around with V2 on Mac and once again bravo Rob. The thing I personally have noticed most is my HH seems to be functioning so much better. Particularly the splash and controls with regards to the foot pedal in general.
I was looking at the maps you have and the different modes like bank mode and the new one - the name escapes me (I tohught it was called something silly I must admit, it was long and complicated. Couldnt you have called it pre-set maps or something simple? lol I diugress...
Do all toontrack's products use the same MIDI mapping? I use EZD at the mo with the intention of eventually upgrading to SD3 and you only have an option for SD. I was wondering if they both use the same mapping and if so, im sure you will get asked this question hundreds of times by beginners as it seems thats what your going for with pre-set midi maps. Why not change it so say toontrack, insterad of Superior drummer. Then you cover both products and stop people asking you that question. Just a suggestion...

I also have noticed it unexpectadly quits a lot of the time. Now granted, the mac I am on is a bit underpowered with regards to RAM - however, im sure it didnt quit tthe program as often as it is nowe - its like every time I start playing for a few seconds, i look up and boom the message saying'this program unexpectedly quit'.

Not the end of the world - definitely reopenable(??) but you ghet what I mean....

So far so good though - my hi hat responds way better now, even for things like when im paying a tight beat and want to bark the hi-hat. It feels way more responsiuve - not sure if thats my imaginiation but hey, either way its good!

Oh also something more functional and annoying for me is when you are in the DMKP mode and you click on Steven Slate Drums or whichever VST mapping settings you choose, it takes you to the preset screen by clicking on it. Thats cool - the annoying thing is you cant click on it again to get out of it, instead you have to go to the other side of the screen and click on the preset. Could you make it so you click on it once and it takes you to the preset and click on it again and it takes you out - just like the actual preset button TBH.
Just something small....
