Positional sensing

Post by breakthewall »

Hi Rob,

I just received my brand new snare Roland PD-128-BC and I'm trying to set the positional sensing (it did not work neither my previous stock Alesis snare).

So I set the green rectangle bounds according to the red line but I don't hear any change in the sound although the red line is in the black part on the left.

Firmware 2.3.2.30 with SD3.

Thank you

It must be a setting in SD3 or eDRUMin. Can you post a screenshot of your settings in the eDRUMin control application for your snare?

Hi Rob,

this is he settings of my snare. It's a bit weird because with another snare in SD3, I could hear the difference of sound, can it depend of the snare chosen?

Another issue (I can open another thread but as you have the snapshot) is I have set the hotspot suppression and it works well but sometimes the "Amount" compensation does not operate and the hit is then very high.

Thank you,
Joan

Yes, not all snares in SD3 have positional sensing, although I think most do. As for the hotspot suppression, if you have the amount control set too high, the feature will not suppress a hit when it would otherwise be completely suppressed.

About hotspot suppresion, I tried several things and lowering down a bit the max line of the curve (on the right) seems to avoid sudden max velocity hits.

Concerning positional sensing, it turned that the difference I heard was due to low rimshots at the edge of the plate. I cannot ear the difference as in your video, it makes me want to...

I purposely chose a snare that had a large sound variation, but that's not necessarily what you want.
