Thanks Rob.
I couldn't wait and fitted the new 2 ply head. It's *much* more predictable and consistent.
FWIW, it's a Jobeky 2-ply prestige.
Edit: The snare actually sounds so much better now, I suspect that off-centre may have been triggered at points during regular playing when actually hitting the centre of the head.
positional sensing help
Re: positional sensing help
I may have jumped the gun on this one.
Since spending more time with the 2-ply head, I've noticed double-triggering when playing rimshots that has been really difficult to dial out. I've been trying looser/tighter head as well as adjusting scan/hold/decay.
Unfortunately the only thing that seemed to help was increasing hold time, but that then caused missed triggers when playing faster rolls.
I'll play around some more, but may end up going back to the stock head.

Re: positional sensing help
So another update here.
"muffling" the 2-ply head by sticking my wallet on it gives brilliant results!
@Rob - I'm no good with electronics/soldering, but any other suggestions based on the above? I'd rather not play with my wallet on the drum each time, I doubt it's always full enough to have any effect

Re: positional sensing help
So, another update.
I stuck the 3-ply back on, and took time to make sure everything was seated correctly and the head was evenly tensioned. I then brought it up to my desired tension in the star pattern to try to keep things even.
And...the drum is much more well behaved.
Oh well!
