Help with ATV cymbal

Post by igeorgie »

I'm new to eDrumin. Since two weeks, I have a brand new ED8.

For my cymbals (ATV) I cannot get them to work and only the bow is triggering. But when I look at the positioning, it detects the whole surface, but no edge or bell is triggered.

I came along this post. Maybe this will also fix my problem.

Can you please post a screenshot of your settings for the cymbal?

Hello Rob,

This is a screenshot of crash cymbal 1. My problems are only with the crash cymbals.
The ride cymbal is working, but only the bow and bell. Edge does not work either. But maybe that is because I still learning...

So, it looks like the calibrate control is still active. You should turn that off. If you pinch the edge of the cymbal, does the Choke light up? Also, do you know what firmware version you are using?

I was taking the screenshot during calibration. Everywhere I hit (edge, bow or bell) the bow is triggered. And the Choke does not light up.

I use firmware 2.3.0.12.

I double checked my cables and they are TRS (stereo). I have also tried both the inputs on the cymbal (I have not read anywhere which one is the correct one). Result is the same.

Thank you for your help.

Using only one cable, you can't expect the bell to work, but the edge should definitely work. Have you checked to make sure you are connected to the correct jack on the cymbal? Do you have a multimeter to test your cable?

Ah, you misunderstood. I did not connect two cables at once. I first connected the edge-input, disconnected and put it in the bow-input.
Same results.

I swapped several cables, but all have the same results. Tested all my cymbals again and only the bows are triggered. Also on the ride. I have 'original' Roland cables. They are very slim and nice to handle (see attachment).

I don't have a multimeter. And I don't know how to use it.

Well, we definitely have a bit a mystery then. I want to capture some data from your cymbal. There are two output on your cymbal. One should be bow/edge, and the other should be bell. Make sure you connect to the bow/edge input.

1. Set your gain to 1.
2. Set your scan time to about 5 ms.
3. Set you hold to about 25 ms.
4. Right-click on the eDRUMin logo 5 times.
5. Left click on the eDRUMin logo 1 time.

A 'record' button will appear just above the velocity curve control.

6. Click the record button and hit your cymbal on the edge 10 times.
7. Click the record button again to stop recording data.

A file called ED_DATA.hex will appear on your desktop. Email it to support at audiofront dot net.
