Optical HiHat Controller?

Hi Rob,

Thought i would give this a try.

Edrumin 4 and AD2:
- 2 piece hihat on stand.
- optical box with optical sensor (TCRT5000), +5v power, TRS cable, lid cover to excite optical sensor (see pic 3 of setup)

Connected to PED input, HiHat pedal selected, CC mode.

With optical cover raised at 2.5" above the optical window, response is from fully open to closed, pedal midi note generated 44 to AD2. see pics 1-2.

My confusion is setting optical lid at .5" above optical window, you can see in the travel panel, it's minimal, and AD2 indicates state of the pedal is closed state not in the open state. Therefore no response.

Not sure how to solve your problem. LED is too bright I suspect.

You could try 3.3v. I would say in practice my optical reflector sits a couple inches above the top of the sensor and when closed is about half an inch from the sensor. I have mine sitting in between my hats. If you want more pictures of my set u I can send it to you. I get a perfectly useable range from open to close, btw.

The eDRUMin will supply 3.3 volts if you set the pedal type to 'expression pedal'. That would be a much safer option.

Yeah chris thats how i set mine up. Im taken back why this isn’t working. I just removed the hats so i could see whats going on. Also i had to attach white paper on the the reflector to get the sensor to work.

The supply i have has selectable voltages…3v, 4.5 5 .. inwill try 3v. If not try the expression with 3.3 supplied with edrumin.

I rather use your 3d. Could you separate the reflector and send me the stl file? My 3d printer has a problem im working working on to repair.
Thankx

Rob, sorry for my confusion. Using expression pedal type, how is the 3.3v getting to the sensor?

oh :o looking at the manual , need to re-wire the tsr jack. currently wired sensor A0 to the tip, gnd to sleeve.

When set to expression the edrumin will supply 3v through the tip. I have all the parts to wire one up like this and try it out. You would only have one wire too.

I just looked at the manual. so we are wiring reverse polarity, where tip is wired to sensor bd vcc+. A0 to ring?
