Hi all!

I just purchased an eDrumin (hasn't arrived yet) as I setup a hybrid kit with rubber cymbals. I'm quite confused about what to do for a hi-hat - I've decided I'll be using Lemon cymbals, and I'll be using it only with VSTs like SD3 and GGD, but I can't decide whether to buy a hi hat cymbal set that comes with a trigger or to buy a cymbal and a separate trigger like Goedrum (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Goedrum-Electr ... 339a476ce7) or Alternate Mode's (https://www.alternatemode.com/alternate ... gers/ehat/)

Not sure which will give me best results with the VSTs and range of hi hat motion. I don't know a whole lot about hihat controllers and settings, so I'd appreciate any advice, thanks!

Well rrv24 depends if you like to DIY an have a little patience. If your going with GeoDrum, there are videos showing you how to install. Pretty simple, but you will have to fuss with edrumin settings and the VST.

Which hihat cymbal set are you talking about that comes complete with trigger installed and controller? Even then you still will have to deal with the module settings.

I actually did post about this on the vdrums forum, but the moment I mentioned the eDrumin, they directed me here haha

It was the Lemon hats that I was referring to that come with a controller - of course, I'd still need to figure out the settings, but I was hesitant in general about how sticking triggers on a LV cymbal for example, would work out compared to an electronic cymbal that has the triggers built in.

Well thats where diying really comes into play. Youbgotta remember that these companies put lots of r&d effort into their products. They have to in order for these cymbals to be very reliable.

So just sticking a piezo on, like a crash is pretty simple, putting a choke on the crash a little tougher to either make one or buy a membrane and wire it in.

As far as a 3 zone ride cymbal, much more complex.

If you watch the YouTube drummer that does all this with geodrum, mryk membrane switches, you’ll get the kevel of effort if that’s for you. Magnatrack is a viable option also.

But gotta weigh the cost vs. the lemon.

Hmmm not sure why because you mentioned using edrumin they referred you here. Many on vdrums use many different modules. I would do a search on vdrums and I’m aure you will find valuable info on this topic . Thats the best diy forum around.

So i guess your stuck with my opinions lol. You chose the right module. I chose it because my roland modules died and didn’t want to spend all that money for sounds and kits that i never used. We gave best of both worlds- fantastic and inexpensive module and inexpensive vst of your choice.
