Help with setting up a footswitch.

I know it's probably more simple than I'm making it but what I am trying to do is set up a 2 button footswitch to act as a snare clutch and a high hat clutch, using SD3 as my vst. Ideally I want one button to switch between snares on/off and the other control the hats open and closed. This is probably a straightforward thing I'd assume but I just cant seem to get it going. Thanks for any help.
