Hi Hat Pedal Linking Question

Post by vdrummerguy »

Hi all, I've got the edrumin 10 setup with my Roland VH-13 and hi hat pedal linked and all, and everything seems to be working ok (still need to do some tweaking), but what I used to do with the Roland TD-30 module was also have a BT-1 trigger bar set as the same hi hat instrument (I like to have a closer trigger for my off hand for the hi hats).

This worked perfectly with the TD-30, and all hits to the BT-1 would work with the hi hat pedal as if I were striking the VH-13 cymbals. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this with the edrumin (unable to link two triggers to the one hi hat controller). I know this is probably not something that anyone else wants, but was hoping it could be added. Other idea I had was what if I used a 1/4" TRSF to dual 1/4" TRS cable, and had the hi hat pedal controller plugged into two pedal ports on the edrumin? That way I could link two different triggers to it, but not sure how the software/firmware would handle it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the suggestion. Instead of linking two inputs to the hihat, I think it might be more useful to link an input to another input such that they share the same notes. I keep it in mind.

Yeah I think that would be even better!

What do you think the unit would do with my idea of using a cable to plug the same hi hat controller to two different pedal inputs, and map the different pads to it that way?

It would probably work, but I've never tried it.

I need to order the Y cable to try it. I'll post back my results (probably going to take a while).

I'll give it a try in a couple hours and let you know of it'll work.

I tested with my VH-13 on an ED10 and ED10R2. The pedal sensing feature gets a bit confused, but it works. As an added bonus, because of the way I've designed the pedal inputs, connecting the hihat to two inputs improves the resolution of the calibration range, assuming you are using an FSR based hihat.

Thanks so much for checking!

If you were to play 16th notes, with one hand on the VH-13 and one on the BT-1, and doing open and close on the hi hat pedal, does it work correctly, or does it have glitches?

If you could add the feature linking an input to another where the second would send the same notes as the first, that would be amazing! I love the edrumin so far, and plan to sell my TD-30.

I tried today. It works fine, but you'll need to assign the CC, pedal note, splash not of the second pedal input to something unused or you will get double notes. I simple changed the MIDI channel of the second pedal input to channel 9 and in Superior Drum I set it to only respond to channel 10.
