False Rim Triggers

Im getting a lot false rim only triggers when hitting the snare centre.

First time installing a trigger so could be a newbie mistake.

Trigger is about 2-3mm from mesh.
Piezo is 25mm from top.

Jobeky dual zone trigger

If you look at the image you can see im getting rim triggers on the far right of the rimshot range even when im hitting the snare normally.

I had this problem. Your cone should be 2mm above the bearing edge. Also for me, my threshold was too low. The edrumin has a hard time distinguishing light hits between the head and rim when threshold is too low. I think I settled on .7 which is what you have. I would check the cone height again and make sure the drum head is tighter than you think it should be. What kind of head do you use? That is important. I use a drumtec real feel triple ply. I have a diy 3D printed spoke style trigger. I’ve get everything dialed in really nicely now but it took quite a bit of fiddling around.

There are reported issues with Jobeky triggers, although I have no first had experience with them. Here are my suggestions.

1. Relax the DECAY control.
2. Make sure the trigger mounting hardware is snug and solidly installed.
3. Reduce the gain if the input is clipping.

I just noticed your extreme rimshot range settings. Is the rim peizo really that sensitive?

That's exactly my experience.

I think, it is not an issue of the eDrumIn. In fact, it is only happening with very subtle strokes giving the eDrumIn
no chance to distinguish between noise and signal.

Im using a Jobeky 3ply. It's quite tight but I can tighten a little more to see if that helps.
Im assuming the vibration through the side of my drum is more than the vibration on the drum head on normal snare hits?
If I move the cone to 2mm below bearing edge that would probably make it lower? and then it seems to have a harder time detecting snare hits over rim hits.

The cone needs to be 2mm ABOVE the bearing edge. If it is below then that would be your problem. Does this occur with only light hits or all hits to the center? I would relax the gain a bit too. Are you showing a center hit? If so your PS isn’t working properly either.

The 2mm is a guideline. I use Jobeky triggers and I have mine around 0.5mm above the bearing edge. Adjusting the cone height (or in Jobeky’s case, the cylinder height) is just another tweak along the way in setup.

I've adjusted the cone height a few times now, higher/lower. Closer to the mesh head seems to remove more rim triggers as it picks up snare hits better. I use the joveky height adjuster for this.

I still get the occasional rim note, especially towards the edge and the side where the piezo is. I dont rim hit much so thinking i might disable it in SD3 somehow for now or until I need rim shots.

Quick question, I noticed im getting no rim-shots, only rim-only hits (purposely or accidently)
Does this have anything to do with it. or is this a setting in SD3?

Most centre hits are a lot louder. I had to use the hotspot suppress to cancel some of it out.
I did some recording yesterday and noticed that when Im actually playing properly a lot of my hits are at max too so turned the gain down like was suggested. I've been a heavy handed acoustic drummer for years.

Overall it's better than it was, it's just light hits towards the edge of the skin (that dont trigger snare) seem to trigger rim hits, espcially on piezo side.

I assume you have a center piezo and a rim mounted piezo. Your only option at this time might be to raise the threshold a bit. The best drum designs will have the rim sensor and head sensor located in the center of the pad, on the same structure that supports the cone. This is done so that both censors see a similar amount of signal when the rim is struck.
