@leem- The piezo cable is a bit pricey, but it was worth it to try multiple ideas and configurations. I had pretty good success with it as an edge sensor on the hi-hat, but your mileage may vary. You can find it on DigiKey- https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-1005801-1.html.
One thing I discovered is that the thick outer jacket limits the sensitivity somewhat, as it was designed to bear the weight o a moving vehicle when used as a traffic sensor. For best chance at a good outcome, carefully split the outer jacket being very careful not to damage the braided shield beneath it, and replace it with a length of shrink tube. Many variables go into making this work satisfactorily, so you have to be patient and experiment. If you decide to pursue it, PM me with questions.
