Adjusting crosstalk cancellation of MIDI-IN notes

Post by AndyDavis »

I have an eDrumIn10 with most of my stuff connected. Since I'm short a few inputs, I am using my old Megadrum as a TMI for the piezo pads (including the kick). The Mega is connected to the eD10 with a five pin MIDI cable.

I am noticing that for some grooves, the kick drum is getting cancelled by the eD10. Usually when I'm riding on the ride cymbal and playing a simple figure on the kick. I'm supposing that sometimes the stars align such that I manage to hit the two pieces such that the kick MIDI arrives at the same time as the ride impulse. Any physical coupling between the pads is via the floor, which seems unlikely.

The UI of the eDrumIn app isn't that complicated, so I doubt I have missed this setting, but asking just in case.

Just saw the comments at the end of viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1096.

Let me know if I can provide more information about my situation, but I do see that it's not adjustable at the moment.

It's on my to do list.... Just just a matter of making room for it on the UI. Maybe version 1.5.1 or 1.6

If and when you do this. If not too much of a bother it would be helpful to set independent crosstalk cancellation for midi in via 5 pin connector and USB Host port. For me the 5 pin connector is an alesis strike multipad with zero crosstalk, and USB host port midi in is some cymbals connected to a TD-17 module. So I would like the ability to have separate crosstalk cancellation between the two MIDI inputs.

Ya, that was the plan. I'm sure someone is going to ask for separate xtalk controls for each USB MIDI device, but that would be a lot of work, so please don't ask.

Yeah I agree that would be too much. Having separate controls for 5 pin and USB should be sufficient in most cases. It just requires planning by the user.

I started working on this today and I noticed a significant bug. In version 1.5 and earlier, there's an issue where high velocity notes from the MIDI In DIN can cancel other low velocity notes from the MIDI In DIN. This is not correct, MIDI In DIN notes shouldn't be able to cancel other MIDI In DIN notes. The same goes for the USB Host port.

This issue will be fixed in version 1.6.

It's probably overkill, but here's what I've got so far. Should do the trick.

Everything in the image is practical and will be useful. I like the activity and the canceled indications. Yes, the four individual indications and text for the up to four hosted devices is a bit extreme. However, if it’s not buggy and does not drive a bunch of issues for you I can see the benefit. It will be useful.

Will the activity indication only illuminate with a MIDI note, or any MIDI message (e.g MIDI note, CC, aftertouch, and PC)?

The GUI indicates that the USM MIDI In (I assume through the USB B port) has no cross talk control. Is that the case or is to be combined with the DIN MIDI In control? If the latter the GUI is confusing, seems to indicator the former.
