me an the other guys using a Hall sensor DIY hi-hat controller setup, have the possibility to have a more "open" hi-hat 1 1/2" to 2".
Because we are not limited to any mechanical parts.
Maybe you can guess what I wanna ask?
It seems that I need a much higher thresh to trigger a splash (60ms is the slowest setting).
And I run into issues, when I want to trigger a closed pedal note with initially not fully open hats.
E.g. in fast stepping parts ...
So, maybe I am not alone and you might introduce a further pedal parameter like "Travel: min. gap".
That the edrumin knows: ok, the hi-hat was not fully opened but there is at least a gap of "Travel: min. gap" so I will
trigger a closed pedal note when I reach the "Travel" parameter.
Or just a toggle button "trigger pedal note from partially opened hats"

I think the simplest solution to your problem is to calibrate your pedal such that you have smaller range of openness. The way things are coded now,the pedal must return to at least 30% of fully open before another closed ped note can be generated.
Your other option is to use the 'impact' method which if I remember correctly doesn't have this limitation.

Not playing nicely for you, I guess. My preferred solution is to find another way around that level of openness restriction. It's there primarily to prevent bouncy hihat pedals from triggering multiple closed pedal notes. The thing is that the hihat is working very well for most users, and I'm hesitant to fix something that's not broken. You don't need 2 inches of hihat travel. You barely need 1cm. It's in that first 1cm of travel when a hat produces the mast majority of its distinct sounds. I think if you surveyed users, you would find that a lot are actually using the pedal curve to make their hats open more quickly to better match the experience on an acoustic hat.

That all comes from my acoustic setup.
I wanted the edrums setup like my A setup.
But isn't a larger travel range better to have more control
over the openess levels? Especially for edrums.
Hmmm...or do we want to have uncontrolled variations in openess?

I definitely want lots of resolution, but I want most of it over a very short range. I'm using a VH-13 so I have two cymbals to get a good gauge of what sound should be triggered based on how close the two cymbals are together.

I know what you mean, sure.
Because - normally, when the hats are open more than 1cm they are not touching each other any more and most of
the sound variety passed by - so to say, when it's open, it's open and sounds open... and it doesn't matter if it's 1 cm or 4 cm open.
It's kind of a habit from the acoustic kit setup: I feel like I get a better, louder, clearer chick sound having a larger gap between the cymbals.
Ok... but there are some sample libraries where the sound characteristics when going from open1 to open2 change really heavy...
I will make the gap smaller and tackle the hihat openess curves of the sampler...

I've got mine opening 1 3/4" which I know is too much for an edrum setup as in no need. What are most edrummers using for amount of travel (opening) of their hi-hat? I'm using a single PCY135 on the stand that came with my Ludwig Accent Combo (low end hi-hat stand).
