Cables

Post by jacobliford »

Hey all,

I’m currently using an old Alesis DM8 as the midi interface to talk to my VST. I'm using the standard wire snake that came with it to connect a custom A2E conversion setup. I'm thinking about purchasing the Edrumin8 when it becomes available again. I've never really thought to much about the type of cables I would need seeing how it's a cable snake. What are the recommendations for these, are they just stereo 1/4-inch cables or do I need something special? I apologize if this is a stupid question.

Thanks for the help.

You don't need special cables--just regular TRS
(stereo) cables.

I wonder does it make huge difference if using custom cables for connecting pads to ED8 such as mogami cable (or premium cables type things) with neutrik jack? how huge does it affect precission triggering in low tuned pads? thanks

I wouldn't invest money on fancy cables. I don't think there would be any measureable performance improvement. Personally, I hand make all my TRS cables from microphone wire. I do this so that they are the correct length, run smoothly along my drum frame, and look clean and tidy. I have at least a dozen of those generic Roland cables in a box. I find they are generally too long and permanently kinked.

noted Rob, thanks for replying.... im using Yamaha cables set which i bought from local marketplace btw.
At first I thought it would really affect trigger accuracy, considering that Yamaha cables are generally so small in diameter for low tuned mesh pad (im using cheap lemon meshpads)

Yes I totally agree with your opinion bout not investing in fancy cables... better go to ED10 right? but I think the factor of waiting time and the good fortune of being able to bring it in must also be taken into account...LoL
plzzzz. plzzz... if its not too much for asking... plz kindly speed up its purchase availability... just realized that the T950 lemon module doesn't provide rimshot articulation for all the toms (which means there's no rimshot midi note for toms ... just rim only and center,) whereas with the ED8 the toms pads can actually provide positional sensing.

I have no way to rush ED10, the chips just aren't available yet.
