Positional sensing design with side trigger

I found a design for a side mounted trigger with positional sensing on vdrums that seems to work with megadrum and Roland.

Did anyone try it or know if it works with edrumin? Would there be any advantage / disadvantage using this design VS a central mounted trigger?
