white line missing?

Post by ddropski »

rob

I was rewatching your videos and I have noticed that in your videos when you are setting up the side stick & rim your white line for the side stick & rim for yours appears at the far right mine is at the middle on some drums (but it is not reliable) .. so I started to experiment with different foam types .. and I am running stereo (trs)
My line has disappeared altogether for rim & side stick
I had taken your advice and center mounter the rim piezo, If I tap the rim Piezo with my finger the will trigger so I am 100 percent positive it is connected in fact if I tap it very hard I can even max out the gain meter. If I hit head and rim together exactly at the same time I get a brief line blip but nothing usable, Also I can see the green does change color too as if the line went invisible. . i have 7 toms all setup the same way .. some have the line in the middle some not at all . so my question is what makes the white like appear? and what moves it from the left to the right ?

thank you

The left to right position of the white line is the rim sensor signal magnitude divided by the head sensor magnitude.

If you are not seeing the white line then it's very likely either the head or rim sensor magnitude is zero or a least close to it. Sounds like you might have a wiring issue. Really hard to say. The VU, thresh scrolling view and the transients are all in stereo, so you have all the tools to diagnose the issue.

You might also want to completely relax yout decay control while you're setting things up.

if I tap the head the left gain jumps close to red ... if I hit the rim the right jumps close to red but still no white line this is weird..
should the head and rib sensors be isolated from each other with foam? perhaps I have to much foam?

so if the head is completely isolated by foam the rim would have nothing to divide by and not show??

i'm kinda at a loss here .. i know the wiring is correct i followed the manual diagram

head ceramic and rim copper to sleeve
head copper to tip
rim ceramic to ring

Ran continuity test and all are connected and not touching eachother

The sensors should not be isolated. The rim sensor should be picking up its signal from the vibrations of the frame, and the head should be picking up the vibrations of the mesh head via the cone. The head sonsor will of course also pick up the vibrations of the frame, and this is normal. In fact if the head sensor is completely isolated from the frame, side stock and rimshot will not work.

Why don't you put you pad together and send some video of the UI when you hit the head and rim a few times.
