Edrumin with Ez Drummer for Drum Loops

Post by bravo647 »

Hey everyone,

Im hoping someone can weigh in on the best way to accomplish a live looping set up?

I currently have a an edrumin4 and an A2E converted drum kit which Im using as the midi interface to a macbook air running Ezdrummer 3.

I want to be able live loop the drums but Im not terribly interested in the cost/complexity of Ableton Live. I was doing research and there is a program call Loopy Pro which I think would work well except as far as I can tell the Mac OS version is vaporware. So the loop software is only on my iphone and it costs 30 USD so its palatable cost wise.

Whats the best way to set up the audio out from macbook to IPhone or IPad- an audio interface? Is anyone out there running a similiar set up? Its really disappointing that the software isnt yet available for mac os as Im thinking that would be a very slick turn key loopstation.

I tried googling but I wasnt finding much info- again interested if anyone is running something akin to this- a dawless live looping set up. The other alternatives would obviously be boss or other loop stations hardware solutions but they are cost prohibitive for a hack and slash hobbyist.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

I have a MIDI controllable looper plugin called SketchPad. I haven't worked on it in ages, but it is designed for live looping. And then eDRUMin has something called 'Record Assist' that's designed to control SketchPad or other loops (check the manaul). When setup correctly, you use a designated pad or pedal connected to the eDRUMin to 'arm' loop recording, and then the next time you hit a pad, the eDRUMin sends a CC to start recording the loop just before it triggers the note. The loop continues recording until you hit the designated pad or pedal again, and the eDRUMin sends out another CC to stop recording the loop. It's especially useful if the drums are the foundation of the loop.

I'm sure you could get the record assist to play nicely with most loopers.
